One of my biggest takeaways from living in Tokyo was that the city is incredible in spite of the fact that 95% of the architecture is unremarkable.
It makes the years-long design review process for a single apartment building in the U.S. seem all the more frivolous.

Victoria, with a population centre of 363,000 people and 100,000 average daily boardings comes in at 0.275 boardings per capita.
Approximating this methodology using, Translink's average daily 1,551,339 mf boardings over a Vancouver population centre 2021 population of 2,426,160 we would arrive at 0.639 riders per capita

In @translink.ca budget discussions, and frankly we don’t talk enough about how Metro Vancouver is the 25th largest metro area in Canada/USA, but has the 3rd highest transit ridership. This is a massive success we sometimes take for granted.

One of the things immediately evident is the weakness of the Millennium Line compared to the other lines, with its route on a wide suburban boulevard and paralleling a major freeway as well as the forced transfer travel time impact

The rate of growth of cycling in Victoria is incredible. Counts on the Johnson Street bridge from the 1st Jan 2025 through 31 August 2025 are up 8.5% year over year.
