Regret to announce that October has come and gone but this is still where I’m at physically, mentally, spiritually

It’s working in a sweater and socks and fluffy pants under a heated blanket and still my joints hurt weather. I hate the Midwest.

I have hit the mid-semester wall very aggressively and BOY it hurts physically and mentally and emotionally. #SendCoffeePls #SendMoreSpoonsToo #AndMoreHoursInTheDayAsWellWhileWeAreAtIt

“If you’re successful, you can’t have ADHD” is fascinating for me to hear as someone who WAS diagnosed with ADHD at a very young age and WAS given the support needed to become an accomplished professional.

What it MEANS is “everyone with ADHD is a loser, and if you’re not, you’re faking it.”
Or, conversely, “if someone already has a successful career they can’t really have ADHD.” I’ve heard that one firsthand.
I have definitely seen a few health care professionals say things online along the lines of “if people need ADHD meds to have successful careers, maybe they just weren’t meant to have professional careers and should set their expectations lower”

I’ll say again that it’s bullshit that fall break isn’t a whole week.

This grey weather is doing 0 for my focus or mood. Time to light a candle and play music to do my best to start the finish to this week.

Millennials are the prof generation now and they're beginning to freak out that students don't get their pop culture references anymore

My suggestion:

Give students a bonus assignment to come up with cultural references that relate to linguistics, put them in the materials for next year, repeat

Jesus take the wheel for the next few days. I am stupidly overbooked and overbusy between all things personal, research, and appointment related.

Does anyone have a favorite paper on models of multilingualism, the bits nonlinguists should know? I'm talking to my class abt it soon & feel like I'm gonna mush it all up. But the papers I have to hand are like "applying the finer elements of translanguaging to the seventh grade science classroom"

Better yet: stop referring to it as A.I. at all.

It is ML: machine learning.

A.I. still doesn’t exist, the computers have not developed consciousness no matter how much the nerds want them to have.
A request

Please use periods when discussing A.I.

I know it’s a pain, especially on mobile keyboards.

But way too many sites use sans-serif fonts, which makes AI indistinguishable from Al; and the Alans and Alberts out there are not destroying jobs.

I wish to not be perceived today. But the work don’t stop and neither can I (at least not today). So coffee and an egg sandwich and a candle and time to focus and get things done.

Yep. I think a lot about "pinch" the concept I first learned from mobile game design that by making something inconvenient, you can charge people to make that inconvenience go away. And once you learn to spot pinch in all aspects of society, you can't unsee it.
Nothing works. Airlines. Making movies. College. Retirement. Mass transit. Medicine. Housing.

Everything is a scam, or on its way to becoming a scam.

Nothing works and it’s all by design, because every hitch in the process is another way for the rich to make more money.
