Bishop Mariann Budde stan account.
Pinned
So much respect for Bishop Budde. Face to face with an ascendant fascist, in front of the whole world, she stood on sacred business and lifted up the holy humanity of people he dehumanizes and persecutes. True faith in action.
Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde to Trump: "I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender people in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives ... and the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals"

The fact we have secret police whisking people off the streets doesn’t get enough attention. It ain’t normal and we’re further down the road to authoritarianism than you think.

We want to train one million Americans in the strategic logic and practice of non-cooperation, as well as the basics of community organizing and campaign design. This is how we slow down, stop, and ultimately defeat Trump’s authoritarian takeover. 👇

New — I wrote about how Zohran Mamdani’s win shows the power of a positive vision for the future, New Yorkers’ rejection of fear-based politics, and provides a blueprint for progressive Jews and Muslims to create a multi-racial, multi-faith coalition that supports prosperity for all.

Zohran Mamdani proved you can fully embrace progressive values—and win.

People in wheelchairs are getting arrested right now in the Russell Senate Office Building in DC. They showed up to tell Congress not to cut their Medicaid, because they cant afford health care without it. If you look closely you can see the zip ties on their hands. #WeWontGetOverLosingMedicaid

I realize there isn't some bold maneuver that will result in an immediate tactical victory for them. I really do.

I just wish they realized that this is one of those times when *refusing to be feckless cowards* itself holds innate strategic value.

Wanted to dig into whether folks truly see this moment for what it is - a rupture from any recent history & rapid descent to authoritarian rule - and how they feel about it.

Many things you wanted to know about Americans' views but were afraid to ask, survey March 7-10 of 1,188 likely voters. 🧵

We've had our critiques of House Dems in recent days so I want to be really clear: they did their job! They held together to vote no! It was good! The Senate needs to follow their example!

Call your Senator and tell them: stop the dirty CR. And call your House rep to thank them (not Jared Golden).
House Democrats are very clear: We’re asking Senate Democrats to vote no on this CR, which is not clean.

Friend was just illegally terminated from her federal job by Musk. ILLEGALLY FIRED. @amyklobuchar.com @smith.senate.gov maybe withholding your cloture votes creates leverage to rein Musk in, maybe not. But FFS TRY. Not trying is SO MUCH WORSE than trying and failing.

This is very good. The best piece of communication on this topic from a Democratic senator so far.

NEW: White House says the arrest and deportation of student activist & legal US resident, Mahmoud Khalil, is a blueprint for more.

The final line here is chilling. The White House specifically says Khalil was not breaking the law.

No evidence, no due process, no crime. He was just disappeared.

What's happening with Canada is not about trade or economics. Trump is trying to break Canada and make it give up its sovereignty because he wants to make the US bigger on a map. He is serious about this and he will inflict pain on us to do it the same way Putin is doing to Russians.

I don't take a back seat to anyone on the subject of anti-semitism. Jews are being used here as a fig leaf to advance a broader attack on universities and higher learning. Trump wants to bring Universities to heel and obedience. Jews are just a convenient cudgel here and just as disposable.
The Ed. Department's Office for Civil Rights sent letters to 60 additional institutions "warning them of potential enforcement actions" for "violations relating to antisemitic harassment and discrimination" including Harvard, Brown, Stanford, Princeton, UNC, and several UC's

This really shouldn't be a complicated decision for @schumer.senate.gov and Senate Dems.

They need to VOTE NO on any Republican spending bill that doesn't rein in Musk.
@schumer.senate.gov having no position is a failure of leadership.

The only viable position is "no, I won't endorse Trump/Musk's illegal evisceration of the government."
