And so, it begins! (again). NEWS. The 8th edition of Psychology will be out in 2026! This means, I think, that I should start writing it.

NEW: The biggest union in the BBC, Bectu, has written to culture secretary Lisa Nandy and BBC chair Samir Shah, demanding the removal of Robbie Gibb from the BBC Board.

They say Gibb, a political appointee, is a “direct block to the BBC maintaining its chartered objective of independence”.

The only problem with this is that the 1950s dressing up fetish of the US social psychologists and the misrepresentation of data that formed the basis of a theory very much should change science. And I think Kelly's analysis is not completely entirely convincing.
I think many people don't realise that "When Prophecy Fails" is not an experimental study, but a work of history. Its like finding out that a popular Netflix documentary is fake. Bad but does not change science. Social psychology is not based on this book in any way.
There’s growing evidence that something was going seriously wrong in the classic early work on cognitive dissonance

Latest revelation: The story in When Prophecy Fails seems to have been fabricated in the most egregious way

But this is not the only one…

I was reading a review paper about facial expression as conversational contributor yesterday and it seemed very WEIRD-centric. Not specifically, just the assumptions behind how people converse and the assumption that everyone does what the "West" does.
A quick (1000 words) read to enjoy with your morning coffee or afternoon tea:

"Psychology wants to stay WEIRD, not go WILD"

Why hasn't psychology diversified it samples, methods, theories, etc.? Because it doesn't want to. osf.io/preprints/ps...
