Amused that Trump's lawyers really sent the legal letter to:
BBC Television Centre,
London W12 8QT.

I wonder if they included a self addressed envelope for a reply and called 018118055 to confirm receipt.

If you ever wanted an example of a programme that has not just gone off the rails but has ploughed into the world's most boring and self-indulgent embankment, then pop over to #newsnight about now.

Meanwhile, in BMJ Towers…

Olivia: Rupert. RUPERT!
Rupert: [watering the office yucca] Yes, Olivia!
O: They’re all going on about retractions again.
R: Olfaction??
O: Retraction. RETRACTION.!

R: Anyway, how’s that special issue on decolonising the colon coming along?
If you're wondering why @bmj.com haven't already retracted this debacle: since 1989 Retraction Watch shows they have retracted a grand total of 7 research articles, so maybe they don't know how to.
This is one of the most remarkable academic debacles I've ever seen.

A large RCT got published in BMJ. There are currently 44 Pubpeer comments, mostly about the data, including...well. Read for yourself.

Interesting study showing that by middle childhood, boys are more willing to publicise top than average performance (successes) but girls as likely to publicise both. Public recognition of success encourages boys but puts off girls. psycnet.apa.org/record/2026-...

Beads, beads, beads; nothing but beads.
Yesterday, Southern Water admitted to losing millions of plastic beads after initially denying it.

Helena Dollimore MP now calls for them to clean up the coastline; disclose contents of the beads; fund nature restoration; and investigate how the spill happened.

Oxfordshire County Council has clarified that the Ghostbusters hearse would not be exempt from the city’s Congestion Charge. A spokesperson told us “It’s not as simple as buying a hearse. In order to qualify for a permit, you must also be a funeral care business.”

Never understood why they do this, giving free advertising and publicity to organisations that loathe them (although Sky also has similar reviews with a rotating tedious cast of Waldorf and Statlers). And it's the same old tired papers- never magazines, websites; occasionally you'll get "regional"
If we're talking about bias, why do BBC politics programmes, from Politics Live to the Laura Kuennsberg Show, still always begin with a look at the newspaper front pages, which are overwhelmingly biased in one direction. Helps frame the entire news agenda and debate in their favour

Absolutely disgusted to hear about the racism Wes Streeting mentions here directed at school children who were visiting Parliament.

He has taken the post down, rightly, to protect the children.

But it's wrong that he had to do it.

Disgusted with so many people in our country. Racism is never OK.

Well, this is a lovely surprise. Next month* there will be another chance to hear a show I wrote called No-Platformed which I assumed had been consigned to audio oblivion. As I recall, it contains quite a lot of strange jokes. 📻 www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...

Went on LBC News earlier to discuss the BBC shambles.

I said the BBC has kowtowed to Trump in the US and conservative outlets here - both of which want the Beeb dead.

Two of the most senior people quit over a 10-second clip using Trump’s exact words, albeit put closer together than he’d like.

This is full of mildly astonishing revelations about right-wing influence at the BBC, but foremost among them is the fact that he was advised that writing for the New Statesman was effectively unacceptable but doing so for the Spectator was fine - indeed, advisable. I am flabbergasted.
The reaction to the Panorama edit has been nothing short of hysterical. Yes the BBC has some impartiality problems. But its biggest isn't the one you think.

New piece from me.
