I'm so disappointed in @sfwa.org for this. I understand that by requiring disclosure of partial LLM-created works, as their announcement states, means SFWA's letting "nominators and the voters" make the final decision. BUT YOU'RE STILL ALLOWING SUCH WORKS ON THE NEBULA AWARDS FINAL BALLOT! 1/
Another Nebula Awards nomination cycle is in full swing, and the addition of poetry and comics, along with the presence of LLMs in industry, required careful consideration.

Read on, and vote well!

We trust our voters & look forward to what they choose to celebrate.

If they're going to award Nebulas for partial LLM-created works then I want a piece of those Nebulas since my work was stolen to create them.

"More and more people who have never engaged in anything like these actions before are purposefully running toward the trouble. As much as their resistance can appear organic and spontaneous—and some of it is—it’s supported by deliberate effort, an infrastructure..."
ICE and CBP, among others, have violently retaliated against ICE Watch in part because the agencies correctly understand what many do not: Organized neighbors are mounting an effective defense, and an organized movement is a formidable adversary. My new feature: newrepublic.com/article/2042...

Residents have organized a formidable network to protect immigrant communities from Trump’s brutal deportation program. Their efforts are making a genuine difference.

I'm glad he's been dropped, but the senior staff involved should resign. They hid, enabled & normalised his behaviour, which targeted staff in poorly paid, very competitive entry level positions who had zero power & knew that any pushback would likely threaten their entire careers.

David Walliams' reputation was an open secret, junior staff were told to meet him in pairs & never visit his home, yet HarperCollins only dropped him when a Telegraph investigation came out. The problem is not just him. HarperCollins knowingly promoted & funded a guy sexually harassing junior staff.

Also find myself thinking about Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

It's wild such a bizarrely sex-positive film about two gold diggers could ever have been made, in the 50s. Like, hell yeah.

Hell, the main conflict in the film stems from both women having differing philosophies on digging gold.

America is fatally obsessed with the question, “What if the WRONG people get something they don’t DESERVE?” We will go without healthcare, dignity in old age, and food for children to keep someone, somewhere from getting what is perceived to be a free lunch. This our great national weakness.

It drives me BONKERS.

You're willing to sacrifice 99 people because one person might get something they didn't 'earn'. You're willing to sacrifice YOURSELF because you think someone unworthy somewhere might be getting something 'free'.

It makes me want to scream until I can't anymore.

I think about this a lot because I read a huge amount of terrible period pulp for research (much as people read Playboy for the articles) and those wonderful little throwaway details that would help establish the period as different to our own? VERY RARELY MENTIONED.
I wonder if other people spend time thinking about the fact that so many "classics" were just contemporary literature for their time

I'm thinking specifically in Carmilla where like "not a lot is done to establish the time period" but like, it didn't need to because it was of that time period
