Once again, it turns out “fully autonomous” means “a guy in the Philippines.”
It Turns Out Waymos Are Being Controlled by Workers in the Philippines
During a Congressional hearing, Waymo's chief safety officer, Mauricio Peña, was grilled over the company's reliance on overseas workers.

I'm not a citizen, I have the right to become one, but I haven't because of the charges, the tests, and how the whole process has been made feel less like a confirmation of my commitment and more like graft & hazing.

They can wrap it in any language they like, the goal is to belittle & humiliate.
PS. Not too late to tell the government what you think about their proposed changes to Indefinite Leave to Remain - the public consultation is open until 12th Feb.

Great explanation of why continuing HS2 is important for us here in Nottingham from @garethdennis.uk. I've set the timecode for the section of interest but the whole video is a good look at Birmingham's suburban rail potential.

Sometimes I spend my time on Google maps looking at places that look like they once had life but by virtue of being a crossroads have been sapped of it and rendered dismally liminal by a failure to imagine doing anything better.

And I wonder, how do we fix them?

A new report indicates that zero net migration would shrink the UK economy by 3.6% and likely force an increase in taxes, as well as being cruel, inhuman and impractical.

Migration is good for our country. Inequality is the problem. Tax the super-rich.

Mostly I listen to TF for the entertainment value while cooking but this slightly more serious episode is a banger if you want to understand more about the state of the world.

The system may be rigged but that's no reason for despair, only to recognise that posting is not enough!

As a society we've failed young men and left them in the hands of assholes who've taught them they need to be vile to be manly. Women are not the problem here.

Should society intervene?
Only if intervention means helping men better themselves and understand masculinity without the toxicity.
📢 “A huge amount of men between the age of 15 and 50 will not pass on their genes. They will effectively die out of the gene pool ... Should society intervene?” Steven Bartlett asked last year.
Two top podcasters have identified a global decline. The problem, they say, is women

I wont be posting much from America on here, I'd prefer to keep it focused on UK and local things but sometimes there's something that's just too good not to share.

I've spent my entire life listening to smug liberals explain that only they get how our political systems work and that's why they can't get anything done. and now I'm watching a social democrat that they all hate dunk on them every single day
Kudos to Mayor Mamdani.

This is what economic justice looks like.

And it's a reminder of how we can fight corporate greed at the state and local level. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2026/01/mamdani-ice-delivery-workers-settlement-backpay-uber-gig-workers-million/

Ireland has dismantled its first commercial wind farm to make way for a step-change in scale. Each new turbine generates more power than the entire 1992 Bellacorick site, illustrating how 3 decades of innovation have compressed land use while multiplying output. buff.ly/goiabIO

I have for some time complained about Google Maps distorting our view of reality and I'm glad to see #NotJustBikes do a deep dive. I often see it embedded in council and other official pages and I think we need our councils to actively make a move away from it.

See thread for a better Nebula link.

Years ago I burned out fighting the impossible fight in the face of an uncaring, ossifying government. Now the plaque is breaking up and suddenly there's everything to play for, @zackpolanski.bsky.social has brought hope back for real and substantive change and it's time to pitch in!
