Literally just did this lesson with my #ECE students this week. Use the science names for body parts and empower and protect children.
As a violence prevention educator, when parents ask me "What can I do to protect my kids from sexual abuse?", my advice is teach them the correct names for their body parts.

If a child is being abused and tells a teacher "My bird hurts", they're not gonna be able to clock that they don't mean a pet
Hi. I transcribe child forensic interviews

You know who doesn’t want kids to know the correct names for body parts? The predators that put those kids in a position to need child forensic interviews.

Those kids NEVER know the right words for their body parts and it is always a hinderance.

Gross that no one in investing cares that the people looking after the children are waaay underpaid. #ECE Only someone who is a parent might care that their child’s educator and caregiver could make more at Starbucks. Go capitalism, making money on the backs of children and mostly women.

What's Doug Ford stealing today, I wonder? Only a clean and liveable planet, so, same old, same old. What a dirty crook.

Ford is still doing it, with your money. All those "Protect Ontario" ads mimic the party's message. A functioning democracy would not allow this, but Doug Ford has carried us far down the road to a "competitive autocracy". Hey Doug! Pay for your own fucking ads.

The Ontario PC govt spent more on public advertising in the run-up to Feb’s snap election than any other Ontario govt in history, the auditor general has found, pushing commercials with a message that “promotes the governing party.”

The Ford government spent $111.9 million of our money in one year on advertising promoting the Ford government so I feel like we’d better not see Doug or any of his cabal doing photo opps at food banks this Christmas telling us how much need there is.

“Canada can create all the MOUs, projects offices and advisory groups (it wants), but chiefs will be united — and are united — when it comes to the approval of projects on First Nations lands,” AFN Chief Woodhouse Nepinak said. “There will be no getting around rights-holders.”
First Nations Chiefs from across the country are meeting in Ottawa. They've unanimously voted to oppose any change to a west coast oil tanker ban. Prime Minister Mark Carney just signed an MOU with Alberta on getting oil to the coast.

First, the existing pipelines are operating BELOW capacity - there is NO NEED for another pipeline. Second, the waters of northern BC are so dangerous that a tanker catastrophe is guaranteed. Third, Indigenous people and the gov of BC say NO. Fourth, NO CORPORATION is coming forward with support

Admin are continually pressuring us to make the course "more accessible," by which they mean "devastatingly easy to complete," but it's not about access. Many students refuse to read or write in any capacity that isn't tech-aided, no matter how simple the assignment, no matter how process-based.

At this point, our intro comp/first-year English course has been so heavily revised, it no longer includes a novel, or "extended reading" of any kind, no "specialized" or "historical" reading, mostly in-class assignments, no research essay...and we are still seeing a 40-50% rate of AI misconduct.

And I swear, once again, this is not dunking on kids. We are seeing this at all levels--even grad students. AI + social media has had a profound impact on how we think and process our world, and we can't stop to reflect on it, because billionaires keep hurling addictive tech at us.
