I think about this all the time. One Black president and one woman who got close. That’s it. That’s what they’re still mad about
Man, having one black president really fucked up a lot of Americans, huh?

As a matter of practical reality, however, all it means is that if a cop murders you and would like immunity, he qualifies.
Just as a reminder - qualified immunity was *supposed* to be that an agent of the state couldn't be prosecuted or sued for following the law if that law was unclear and later turned out to be unconstitutional. Not immune from consequences of clear cases of abuse.
Civilians are the ones who usually wind up dead.

Civilians are not trained for armed conflict.

Civilians have the justifiable claim to fear.

In a conflict between civilians and authorities, it is civilians who should receive benefit of the doubt; who should receive qualified immunity.

Naming a police officer is not doxxing. We aren’t supposed to have secret police in America.

This is normal for Black Americans. Our deaths are recorded for public consumption, the perpetrators get off, and the media commiserates that the victim brought it on themselves
The shooting is shocking enough but the government's response is off the charts when you consider that this incident is forensically documented on video.

She was deeply loved by her wife who is presumably going to raise the six-year-old boy you just categorized as an orphan for some reason.

And we didn't ✌🏾lose✌🏾 her. The government murdered her. Words mean things
Renee Nicole Good was a mother of three, including a 6-year-old boy who is now an orphan.

Renee was deeply loved by many. Her mom described her as “one of the kindest people I’ve ever known.”

This is who we lost yesterday.

Cyclops has heat vision.
Here is an excellent example of Cyclops using his heat vision. You can even see all those flames behind him.

yes. it’s been an amazing time to have gotten a degree in the history of gender and sexuality and then to spend 10 years working in the LGBTQ and repro justice movements. it’s like being bonked by the dodgeball of prophecy, constantly, all of the time
kind of darkly funny that "gender studies" is the stereotypical "useless degree" because gender studies will help you understand a large and important chunk of the current psychosis in american life

COVID-19 levels are increasing across most of the U.S. as of late December. But flu is overshadowing COVID-19 in healthcare system impacts and headlines.

For both viruses, similar precautions (like high-quality masks and improving air quality) work to reduce your risk of infection. bit.ly/3LhxKd2

I don’t remember how I found Kiki as a child but that movie was definitely a core piece of my childhood before I even knew what Ghibli was

Tal Lavin’s book “Culture Warlords” is an absolutely fascinating (and deeply alarming) look at the white supremacist/far right/religious right. It’s a must-read, and the parts about the white/Christian only dating sites are jaw dropping.
incredible stuff. i catfished on there for culture warlords it had the worst opsec ive ever seen and like a 20:1 ratio of dudes to chicks. also they denounced me as a jewish cancer after the book came out

When you think it can’t get more sinister and terrifying, it does. Without these data, we will be so unmoored.

RFK has to be stopped, and he still can be. Impeach or fire, now
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), run by Oz and his boss, RFK Jr., will no longer require physicians to report vaccination rates.

Instead, they plan to start having doctors report if they’ve discussed “alternative” vaccine schedules.

Bari Weiss is the logical endpoint of corporate media. This is what happens when people who hate journalism are in charge of it. The only way journalism works is when it’s independent from the power it’s supposed to hold to account, which means ownership can’t have anything to do with those in power

One of the weirdest parts of this error--that I imagine is incomprehensible to younger generations--was the "smoking section" that was supposed to isolate smokers but was normally just... right next to the non-smoking section as if smoke doesn't waft.
this is a good reminder of how things that are shitty but have been accepted as normal and inevitable can actually turn out to be abnormal and evitable with some science, time, education and political will
