Instead of making placement decisions through the IEP team, as required by law, CMSD is bypassing the process and negotiating directly with parents. 🚩🚩🚩🚩 No Prior Written Notices (PWN) are being issued for these changes. Not a conspiracy theory. LRE cannot be met that includes proximity to 🏠.

Public education funding should remain in local communities to directly benefit the students and families who live there. Charter schools often divert a significant portion of their budget away from the communities they serve, frequently sending it out of state & into extremely wealthy communities.

Advocating for strong public schools needs to be a central part of any urbanist agenda. It’s one of the few urban civic institutions remaining which regularly brings people together to create community. And you can’t truly advocate for public schools if you don’t send your own kids there.
