Living the car-free dream in Philly. Philly public school parent. Brompton Bicycles are the ultimate urban life hack. I only really care about Philly issues; it’s not my job to provide context to my posts for non-Philly folks.
Can someone at the @inquirer.com take a look at why the iPhone app is taking up so much storage??? I’ve had the app storage usage go over 30GB! I get that apps need to cache data but it should limit the cache to no more than 1GB or so. I shouldn’t have to manually clear the cache.

Don't believe everything you read on Reddit. I don't know why this person thinks a digital subscription to the @inquirer.com is $40/mo. The website says it's ~$25/mo. And if you threaten to quit after your $1 for 6 months trial, you can get it cheaper than the $25/mo. www.reddit.com/r/philadelph...

Transit's main competition is cars. If you raise fares from $2.50 to $3, you're still way more affordable than driving. But if you cut the bus from every 15 to every 20, you're screwed because cars have infinity frequency and 24 hr service span.
I hate that we’re having to think in these terms, but the evidence seems to be bearing out that steep fare hikes are less damaging to ridership than service cuts.
2025 was brutal for US transit. Agencies faced budget deficits, flat ridership, and open hostility from the White House.

I wrote a series of stories outlining ways to help transit endure.

Lesson #1: Whatever you do, don’t cut service. Riders will leave – permanently.

Here are a few others 🧵

This big bag of freshly made tortilla chips from a mom+pop tortilla shop was $7. Seems like a lot but it’s a lot of chips since there’s no extra air in the packaging. Probably ends up about the same price or even less than big brand chips but these taste so much better.

Most American cities and suburbs should just adopt golf carts as their primary mode of transportation like Peachtree City, Georgia. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcVG...

I wonder how many people bike-commute regularly from Center City to Conshy. It's nice you're on the SRT the whole time with the exception of Manayunk of course. I wouldn't be surprised to learn there are people who do this every day. Maybe a good candidate for a Philly Bike Train route? ;)

I'm starting a new job next year and their office is in Conshohocken. It used to be in Center City but after they realized the tax consequences, they moved the office to Conshy.

Apparently Stranger Things is most popular in the 18-29 age group. I’d think it’d do better with people in their 30s and 40s because of the 80s nostalgia.

There’s a Tiffany tape in one of the episodes in season 5. I still have the record for her hit single.

Powerball is up to $1.6 billion. It’s really “just” $700 million or so if you take the lump sum payment which is what most people do. Then after taxes, ~$350 mil?

I’d like to think I’d keep a few million and give the rest away.

It’s wild how fast people drive on Lincoln Drive. Speed limit is 25mph because it’s a windy road with narrow lanes, yet most people are going 40+.

Wore this Gorewear helmet liner for the first time last night. Makes such a big difference! Usually I overheat with it but with the crazy winds last night, it let my head warm. Highly recommend! www.gorewear.com/us/en-us/c3-...

I don’t think Philly appreciates how nice it is that we have a subway line with local and express trains. It’s pretty rare in the US.

As a Christian, I would always love to see church buildings continue to be used to worship God and serve people, but it’s better they become homes than stay empty.

The worst is when people who aren’t even religious want to see church buildings stay empty for aesthetic/nostalgia reasons. 😡
Another former religious building is being redeveloped into apartments, with an assist from a law City Council passed in 2019 to preserve large, neighborhood scale historic buildings like churches.

Love it that people are still writing about how amazing Station Eleven is. I agree that it was probably difficult to watch Station Eleven when it was released in 2021 as our lives were still affected by the pandemic. I hope more people are willing to watch it now.

My 13yo son and I spent last night playing guitar together. He’s just learning and trying to understand strumming patterns. I was doing my best to teach him strumming for Wonderwall.

It’s moments like this you hope to have someday when you have kids.

I finally got a Christmas tree! And of course, I got my #treebybike! 🎄🚴‍♂️ @bikeaction.org @bcgp.bsky.social @5thsqadvocacy.org

I’m a bit late in getting my tree. The guy on E Passyunk and Queen St wanted $130 for a tree!?!? Wtf.

Finally saw Copeland live for the first time. They were my soundtrack for my mid 20s. Sadly they were only the supporting act for The Starting Line so they had a short set but it was so worth it.

Love these stickers. Now I have to make the agonizing decision about where to put them! Thanks @5thsqadvocacy.org!

1) It's a good thing that professional-class transplants want to live *in* Philadelphia, and not in goddamned Lower Merion.

2) Density in Center City is good.

3) If you live in Center City, and you fon't need a car for work or to visit family or something, you really don't need a car.
If you’ve lived in Philly for a while, you might have looked up at all those high-rise towers and wondered: Who’s up there?

The answer is, more than likely, a bunch of carless, 30-something transplants who work at Jefferson.
Who is living in all of Center City’s new apartment buildings?

I’d probably estimate 200-300! It was so cool marshaling an intersection and the stream of people on bikes just going on for what seemed like forever. 🥰

Rain and cold can’t stop Philly from celebrating the holidays on bike! 🎄🎄🎄🚴🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️
I'm an optimist, but I was still astonished how many people turned up for the Holiday Lights Ride last night. It rained for the four hours before the ride! Yet I'd guess around 200 people, maybe more, came out to roll through the illuminated streets of South Philly. Just wild.
