Living the car-free dream in Philly. Philly public school parent. Brompton Bicycles are the ultimate urban life hack.
And I almost always stop at Tired Hands when I come to Ardmore.

I always feel compelled to take a photo of this when I go to Ardmore.

Ardmore! In big letters to let you know you’re in the right place.

I can’t believe I actually considered living in Narberth. It’s one thing to rely on trains that only run every 1-2 hours to go to a couple of concerts a year… I can’t imagine doing this to go home from the city.

Of course, ideally all my favorite artists should only do shows in the city. 😁

Ardmore Music Hall is the only music venue in the suburbs I’ll go to because it’s so easy to get there via Regional Rail. Actually faster to take the train than drive!

And if you have a monthly pass, it’s free on the weekends. All Regional Rail trips are free on weekends with a monthly pass!

Kinda annoying SEPTA switched tracks for the Paoli train 1 minute before arrival. Almost missed the announcement because I had my earbuds in and had to run up and down to the other track but I made it!

For Philadelphia, that means getting to 3 million residents by 2045. We should set that as a goal, then work backwards from there to figure out what zoning changes, public transit upgrades, sewage and water upgrades, additional parks and school capacity, etc are necessary to get there.

With city riding, lights are not about YOU being able to see. Even if you have no problem seeing in front of you, *drivers, pedestrians, and other cyclists* cannot see you!

Ride with lights. It’s not just for your own safety, but it’s also the law.

Only exception in Philly is the SRT -- I was surprised by how dark it was riding on the SRT along Kelly Dr at night. It'd be nice if they added more lights along the trail to improve safety. My "be seen" lights were insufficient there.

It's sad that in 2025, it's still hard to find USB-C rechargeable bike lights. Lezyne has been better than other bike light manufacturers in adopting USB-C.

In the city, you don't really need super bright lights. "Be seen" lights like these Lezynes are good enough.

Yeah I trust Waymo more than human drivers, at least in Philly where drivers can’t seem to get off their damn phones and if you tell them to pay attention to the road, they’ll probably pull out a gun and threaten to shoot you.

Greater Center City (Tasker to Girard, river to river) only grew 24% between 1990-2020. It probably doesn't help that so much of the city outside of Core Center City is zoned RSA-5 (single family, yellow in image) or RM-1 (multi-family, orange in image), both with max heights of 38ft.

I used to live in a 4 story row house in Hoboken that was converted to a duplex. My family of 4 lived in the top 2 floors and another family of 4 lived in the bottom 2 floors.

Philly in particular should allow converting single family row houses to multi-family more easily to support more density.
