In a country of many weird games, UnReal World has to be one of the weirdest for me. Not enough is written about it, happy about this article!

also that game design and narrative and "aesthetics" i.e. art and sound are inseparable from each other, it doesn't make sense to look at any of those elements in isolation, and we only do that because the production of bigger AAA games has necessitated a Fordist model & set the tone for everything

In video game simulations, what do we call the opposite of abstraction in processes? Where instead of "crafting two things together" with a button press you must enact processes of grinding, attaching, etc? Or what Bennett does with limbs+muscles, instead of just "push forward to move" abstraction?
Had a dream about a hardcore vintage story mod server where players are all just stuck sailing a massive whaling vessel, all people microblock-chiseling voxel bones into voxel scrimshaw, catching voxel blood from blocky manatees to make fishy blood sausage in the galley, peeling voxel potatoes...
