We live in in age where seriously ill and or aging musicians and comic book creators and authors and voice actors have had to crowdfund for medical costs and people are still thinking those groups are largely made up of landlords or some shit.

companies listening to what people say they want instead of making art and just giving them something has been ruinous for games, movies and more for the last 10-15 years
I once worked on a visual novel game where all the surveys and focus groups said that nobody wanted romance, they only wanted mystery and sci-fi.

Then 75+% of clicks in-game went to stories with explicit romantic or sexy themes.

'These kids do not care about romance': Game devs want to know what today's teens want, and surveys say sex and romance isn't it
Young people want stories about friendship more than romance, say researchers and industry execs.

Michigan State cancelled their Lunar New Year lunch. BUT. It's partly because the Chinese students who would have attended--many international students--were afraid to gather together right now.

I don't blame them. But this will happen more & more: make people afraid & they'll hide/self-censor.
More info from Bridge Michigan.

It was a lunch geared toward Chinese students.

Some students were worried about gathering as "one racial group," university officials said, even though the event had been held four times with no complaints.

GenAI has polluted image search results, especially for animal pics. It’s now basically impossible to find accurate art references.

Enter this: a repository of open-access, AI-free images of wild & exotic taxa. Artists creating *without AI* have blanket permission for derivative/transformative use.

It's kinda funny how John Green has to constantly fight against book banners misrepresenting his work and intentions, and needs to make videos every few years explaining how Looking For Alaska is not porn

And Hank just has people questioning if you can, in fact, slam your boob in a door

My other popular opinion is that in-app purchases fucked mobile gaming.

Yes, there are exceptions; I know them. But the whole “our game gets unplayable after a point unless you buy coins” thing just means that games are no longer fun and developers aren’t trying to balance playability any longer.
