That, right there, is the problem.

As we mark the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition, we honour those who endured unimaginable suffering.

Our city’s streets must tell the full story of our history so that we can all learn from it.

It is very nearly the tenth anniversary of that brief moment when, for 2 or 3 days, British newspapers remembered refugees are desperate human beings who need our help, rather than scum that it's okay to threaten with violence.

The threat to our society is not from asylum seekers in small boats. It’s from politicians and media cynically whipping up fear and prejudice, labelling them all as criminals, inciting hatred against people for where and what they’ve fled from.
It must stop. For all our sakes. It’s deeply sinister.
