When our transportation system is built around one single mode, and that mode fails, our community predictably comes to a grinding halt.

We saw that last week when I-95 traffic gummed up Norwalk's streets so badly that school was canceled due to the traffic.

It’s only a slight exaggeration to say that the official enviro position should be: “Maximize development of luxury housing near fixed transit.”

A 🧵 on why.

“No Kings” is one of the sharpest bits of political branding/rhetoric in a while. Extremely concise and in every headline, historically rooted, specific to the American tradition but also universalist, nails what’s exceptional about Trump in a way that almost all factions in opposition can endorse.

Today they have crossed a deep red line.

We, the people, must hold the president and his appointees accountable for this outrageous abuse against American liberty.

"Chicken in every pot & Waymo in every city" is also a backward-looking vision. Let's aim for every city to have high-frequency, reliable, accessible electric bus-and-train networks integrated with safe pedestrian & cyclist infrastructure. Also taco trucks on every corner.

In 2019 a BYU Japanese PhD student helped organized a fishing outing. The group caught more fish than they were allowed, but prosecutors decided not to charge him.

Now, his visa is being revoked.

Kudos to Rubio for keeping America safe.

Utah folks - are the retaliatory Chinese tariffs going to have an impact on alfalfa farmers? IIRC a bunch of Utah alfalfa gets exported to China

I'm deeply saddened to share that Donald Shoup passed away last night. He was the ideal academic—curious, methodical, and concerned with turning ideas into real-world change. TAing his parking course these past few years has one of the greatest honors of my life. Rest in peace, Shoup Dogg.

This is largely going to have pro-highway, anti-transit impacts -

but a small silver lining could be that Utah, perhaps the most pro-transit red state, could move to the front of the funding line in time to build some real transit improvements for the 2034 Olympics

If you wanted to decrease the cost of homes, one thing you wouldn’t do is put a flat tariff on your main source of timber.

The take I am most certain of that gets me in the most trouble is just "The reason homes are so expensive is because there are not enough of them, so we really really really need to build more of them."

I had a wonderful experience at BYU as an undergrad, with great mentors and friends who prepared me to be an academic. I also know there are lots of phenomenal faculty there now attempting to blend professionalism with the faith’s mission.

What Clark Gilbert and other admin are doing is tragic. /1

UTA ski bus service to Brighton is so full we're having to turn people away at the mouth of the canyon.

Embarrassing that we can't even run enough service to carry all the people who want to ride.

(Un)fun facts:
- Connecticut has no county governments
- Regional planning is done by COGs (councils of governments)
- The below area ("lower Fairfield county") is split across two different COGs - Bridgeport & suburbs in one, and Stamford + Norwalk in another (with Danbury!)
A very under discussed New England thing is the tiny size of our municipalities and the impact on perceived importance of CT on the nation

A "Super Muni" bounded by NYS on the west, Merritt Parkway, Housatonic River, and LI Sound would be 577k residents = top 30 city at parity with Milwaukee

Dear SVP for ESG,

You want your company be part of the climate solution? Make low-carbon, high-efficiency part of your core product, not a nice-to-have add-on.

You're Google, say, make "bike" an option for connecting modes, and make transit, walking & biking part of your offline maps.

Many thanks
