WELCOME TO THE GOLDEN AGE OF NEW YORK CITY
New York to the haters: Drop Dead

in this week's Groove, @dmey.bsky.social makes the case that while the billionaires and conservative crybabies wail and gnash their teeth, New York is, in fact, at the start of a new golden age:

Eric Adams in his lame-duck period doing everything advocates have been asking him to do for years is interesting, to say the least. He's making it so that Mamdani can't claim all these easy wins in January simply be implementing plans Adams has put on ice for 4 years.

I hope New York Jews understand that the dual loyalty trope is used against them, too. If Cuomo feels comfortable attacking Mamdani in this way, what’s to stop him from turning on NY’s Jewish pop when it stops being politically advantageous for him to support?

If the 5 unions now holding out had accepted pattern bargaining, none of these contract work rules would've been discovered.
Let's see if the politicians and the MTA hold firm, and roll back some of these ridiculous rules. nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/10/08/m...
MONEY TRAIN: How LIRR Unions 'Game' The System - Streetsblog New York City
An old work rule means that the MTA would have to pay millions of dollars just to provide a little extra service after special events like Mets games or the Ryder Cup.

I called my Senators about this a few days ago and it is already a tough time in my life before I had to beg for my existence and the existence of my friends and community from people who are supposed to represent us. It’s incredibly draining. We need others to speak on our behalf here, too.
hey, cis people. we need you to call every single elected official you've got, now.

“when it comes to transportation, Adams has been insincere, uninvested and un-open to criticism — a toxic combination in a leader”
Let's remember some alleged corruption, empty promises, and an unwillingness to stand up to anyone (ever) from the soon-to-be former mayor. buff.ly/p5PBQT1

yeah they're just murdering random people on these boats
I think the Trump admin assumed no one would try to find out who the people on the boats they blew up really were

"Assembly Member Zohran Mamdani, the frontrunner to succeed Adams, has his own big transportation promises, and a record of criticizing Adams for failing to live up to his. Andrew Cuomo, his main remaining opponent, doesn't even have a streets transportation plan."

maybe he's talking about the commuter buses
A line that stuck out to me (and I think nobody else) in yesterday's NJGov debate: Ciattarelli (GOP nominee) describing the turnpike as a "mass transit system."
Trump is rescinding road safety grants all over the country, in blue states and red ones.

The reason: those projects are "hostile" to cars.

Chomsky was right when he said vigilante violence does not help progressive causes as the fascists have the most guns. I condemn this attack on Charlie Kirk. And I condemn people trying to resolve our political problems with violence. It only leads to more violence. We must build each other up.

Streetsblog has had to regularly screen and block antisemitic commenters since this bike lane debate started so, no, I don't think this is an OK way to talk about it.
Bedford Ave being ripped up should be insulting not just to bikers but to every New Yorker that doesn't want to have their lives dictated by religious extremists
