I’m on bluesky now. Mets, movies, a book or two
Hamnet made me cry and I’m not one to discard the emotional experience I had in the name of good criticism. Filmmaking is pretty obvious and lacks a spark of life, though. At least two scenes I’d describe as embarrassing. Still basically worked on me. Buckley very good

Rewatching Bacurau ahead of seeing Secret Agent tomorrow. I wonder if the scene where the schoolteacher discovers Bacurau is no longer on the map was at all inspired by Attack of the Clones

Was going to make a joke about the pope watching Tenebrae or something but then I remembered the first person to ever tell me about Suspiria was a marianist monk
Scanning the crowd at that Pope Leo film thing at the Vatican. Spike Lee and Cate Blanchett sure, but front row seat for Dario Argento 💥...

Seems rude to do this as a quote tweet to Frankenstein, the monster, whose movie I am trashing in the image but oh well

Love that Weapons, like Barbarian, has a sequence where a character takes a bunch of measurements. Cregger should make a comedy about a surveyor or something. Justin Long can be in it.

Writers have a responsibility to not say shit like this but studios have maybe a bigger responsibility to not pull quote it

The serialization of the Craig Bonds was ruinous not just for Bond but evidently for everybody’s brain. Horowitz has always been stupid though
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

Any time Jennifer Lawrence does something aggressively hard to watch in a movie half the internet hates I eat that shit up. Die My Love is pretty good

Performative reading is such a real thing of course everyone knows this. Books are for girls like how movies are for boys. We all feel normal when we say things like this

Threw on The Searchers 4K to see if new TV handled the shadows better than my old one (they looked green!) and it does! The worst areas were still a little problematic but others were totally resolved. Also what a movie, etc.

What is the best movie not from this year that you’ve seen this year? Bonus points if you say why

Pluribus is a brilliant piece of television in that it has fully anticipated my present moment as a guy who doesn’t think Pluribus is very good.

Broke in my new TV with the 4K blu-ray of THE VALIANT ONES. Had previously only seen it via shitty vhs rip. Cool to find out it’s so beautiful (I figured) in addition to kicking mountains of ass

nightmare over new TV ordered we back up
I have been sick all week, missing time at work I do not have PTO for, and the moment I have the energy to watch a movie for the first time in weeks I discover my TV is broken. Moving to a more expensive place in a month so I can’t even replace the damn thing

Caught up on Batman: Dark Patterns last week and catching up on Absolute Wonder Woman now. Hayden Sherman's layout game is unmatched. Not a single dull or even typical page.
