I’m on bluesky now. Mets, movies, a book or two
Of course right after I cancel my Row House membership because I didn’t want to see anything they’ve shown for months they go and program BARRY LYNDON at the Hollywood.

Here it is. My totally not at all fungible top 20 favorite movies of 2025 listed in an order that is *definitely* a hard and fast ranking. This could have easily been a top 35 or more. Good year.

We have to reserve slop for low effort stuff made with contempt for its audience. Everyone should stop saying it for a while. Let it regain some of its sting.
i worry we are at a dangerous impasse where 'slop' might start meaning 'anything i don't like'

Here are my favorite film discoveries of this year. As always this list consists mostly of movies I really should have seen before now.

Haven’t seen a new Jackie Chan movie in a very long time so I can’t say if THE SHADOW’S EDGE is a return to form. But it is about as good as a movie that climaxes with 71 one year old Jackie Chan fighting 67 year old Tony Leung Ka-fai could be

I’m feeling pretty sentimental and it’s not just the Old Granddad talking. Today marks 9 years of dating my incredible wife @jaimepoland.bsky.social and our tenth Christmas together. She is the greatest and I’m sure my life would be miserable without her in it.

Can’t say I am sad to see McNeil go just like I am more than fine letting go of Nimmo. Of the pre-Lindor Mets core the only batter I really gave a shit about was Pete

the number of times the character name Pasquini is said in Live Like a Cop, Die Like a Man (1976, Deodato) delighted me so much that i made an edit of some, but not all, of the 'Pasquinis'

between THE SECRET AGENT and THE MASTERMIND it’s a huge year for genre-adjacent auteurist visions starring hot guys I think are cutiepies.

Got the first two hardcover omnibus volumes of Grant Morrison’s Batman run as a gift and they’re great EXCEPT the DC Comics logos do not match and it’s very annoying on the shelf

FIRE AND ASH was very cool. Not as wonderful as WAY OF WATER but still a work of lunacy that had a lot of great stuff featuring the white boy with dreads and teenage Sigourney Weaver, my favorite characters.

So funny to still see people reacting that THE MASTERMIND was much less of a heist movie than they imagined. I had the opposite reaction, was so surprised at how much Reichardt played the hits. Awesome movie.
