The difference is that back then people paid attention when Democrat leadership said something
harry reid straight up said "mitt romney cheats on his taxes and i can prove it," and he didn't cheat, and he couldn't prove it, and it was a story for almost a month, and the democrats somehow did not learn that they can just say "donald trump is a pedophile"

Rhetorically - yes.

But Biden was incapable of personally articulating that from the podium. And I am still fully convinced his platform would be way more popular if the infrastructure programs hadn't been ensnared by the same web of bullshit the Abundance people are constantly yelling about.
what the hell are you talking about man, biden's entire presidency was about the middle class. it was the entire political theory behind deliverism and the economy

Best playoff game I've ever seen. Absolutely mesmerizing pitching all night. Insane defensive plays. Just a dead-eyed marathon the whole way through.

I've heard younger people say this about the movies.
I’m reading The Fellowship of the Ring for the first time in ages. There’s such an earnest loveliness to the writing, of a kind you don’t really see anymore. It’s sad to say, but I think if someone wrote a book like this in 2025, it would be lambasted as overly sentimental and “cringe.”

That’s definitely the most Classic Mariner Loss™️ of the year. Always a pleasure to watch a master like Dan Wilson play his craft tho.

The thing about WWII bombing campaigns is that it's weird we didn't keep using nukes. Not that we only used 2.
The use of atomic weapons on Japan saved lives and were critical in creating the nuclear taboo
What is the thing you said that made people the maddest at you on Bluesky?

The fact that people talk about us at all is overwhelming reassurance that what we have to say is important and valuable.

I have put thousands of hours of work into my #tornado shelter map over the past 3 years, and I know it has saved lives (based on testimonials). I never imagined this when I started it. I appreciate so much the support from everyone. #EMGsky #WXsky #AcademicSky

Apartheid is probably a more accurate analogy for the 20th century segregationist status quo. The KKK and Redeemer governments during reconstruction were probably the earliest examples of protofacist movements.
Jim Crow was effectively a fascist substate

The amount of technical intervention with genetic science and synthetic supplements that would be required to make this possible is truly extraordinary. The only way to traffic in this type of pastoral delusion is actually have lived a life fully disconnected from agricultural life.

Dem leadership has spent half a decade hunting for conservative coalition partners to defeat MAGA and they have almost nothing to show for it, electorally.

The progressive left pops up with the first real, homegrown electoral success in years and their first reaction to grab their mallet.

sorry i don’t think Zohran’s win indicates how state or national races will go. Zohran campaigned against unaffordable basic needs and an old pervert. problems that are unique to new york city and no where else in the country

A party composed of these pols in coalition with demsoc populists and a principled, pro-democracy foreign policy would be a powerful force.
The rise of people like Lander and Walz, whose ideologies don't exactly match mine but have the exact right combination of "love thy neighbor" and "fuck you, asshole" attitudes, is massive positive for people who care about left of center politics

Dems don't want to "win" young votes. Or young male votes. They want to figure out how to make those young people more like themselves.

I think it is generally an extreme personal & professional hazard to ever seek, or take seriously, advice on technical matters from social media. But people do it *all the time*.

yeah zero feedback on this perfect summary
honestly does seem like the basic dynamic in american politics right now is that a critical number of voters treat Democrats like their (nagging) mom or their (bitch) wife and treat Republicans like the “cool” dad or husband who is at best a deadbeat

We should all seriously consider what will happen if Iran folds and capitulates to Israel and the US. It will be both a huge propaganda & foreign policy coup for Trump.
