No, the Elon of Mars hasn’t driven me off the Service-Formerly-Known-as-Twitter — I was there before him dammit! But I’m here too now. However I will generally prefer to do primary posts to my Mastodon since, well, it’s MINE.

In 2025, 40% of American women aged 15 to 44 say they would move abroad permanently if they had the opportunity.

The current figure is four times higher than the 10% who shared this desire in 2014, when it was generally in line with other age and gender groups.

When an insurance company is deciding whether to pay for your medical treatment, it generates a file, which should contain all records associated with your case, including documents explaining why the claim was denied.

You have a right to see this file.

Good roundup on fertility job market papers by @revoluzia.bsky.social

One bit: if real U.S. house prices stayed at 90's level, we would've returned to replacement fertility.

This is how UBI will eventually be implemented--a steady trickle of money from out-of-court settlements to class-action lawsuits for crimes committed by gigantic multinationals. Eventually YottaCorp International will find it cheaper to send everybody $1500 a month to keep us off of their backs.

I think this helpfully confirms the notion that the end of the filibuster was a big motivator for the eight Dems.
Heaven forbid the Republicans get rid of the filibuster…

If you have a very low-latitude aurora observation from tonight, please record your exact time and rough location and DO NOT DELETE your photo. These observations will be important for scientific research of this event.

In case you were wondering what all those stars you saw while ogling the #aurora were:
🌗 Last Quarter Moon occurs on November 12th at 5:28 UT (now), marking the onset of dark moonless evening skies. This is a great time to enjoy stargazing for the next week or so. Go to skymaps.com/tesm/ to download The Evening Sky Map (PDF) and treat yourself to a night under the stars! 🔭

Pixar designed Toy Story to be printed on physical film. The Disney renaissance movies were the same.

Today, it's hard to see them as they were meant to be seen. The versions on streaming and home media aren't quite the same films that ruled the '90s:
