this is the thing i think people are getting blinded by. until ai can write code that is consistently and verifiably "good code" 99% of the time (which is higher than the standards we hold ourselves to) then it's not eliminating the necessity for humans in the development process at all
it's not eliminating any of the hours that i spend actually working though. replacing 5 minutes of coding with 5 minutes of verifying outputs and debugging occasional errors isn't useful and lowers productivity.

As someone who spends a lot time thinking about the values I want to teach my kid (besides PLEASE DON’T EAT DIRT), the thing I keep coming back to is this: I want him to believe that the strongest, bravest thing he can do is give a shit about other people—especially ones who aren’t like him at all.

1) Woke up
2) Found out 18F was shuttered
3) Made biscuits with the kids
4) Went to brunch
5) Did not give up

The administration got rid of 18F under the cover of night. People who own skyscrapers are afraid of 100 people who make websites.

Not because of the latest tech fad, but because we proved the government can be fixed, the government can be made better and the government can work for the people.

I don’t think a lot of people outside science understand the symbiotic relationship we have between public, private, and educational sectors. We all lean on each other for help, support, and R&D. In most cases, we aren’t competing so much as all rowing different boats in the same direction.

I am way less interested in "believed lies that would benefit them" than I am in "didn't care who else got hurt"
Every one of these stories should be looked at as a failure of America's media. We failed to inform people correctly and they voted accordingly. There doesn't appear to be any chance this will cause some broad reconsideration of how media companies work sadly. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Maybe don't exchange your vote for promises from a known liar.

But I'll play.

Here's a few 30 second searches to find articles from reputable sources:
- 2024 AP differences between presidential candidates
- 2024 AP candidate's stances ivf
- 2024 AP candidates on womens rights

No excuse.
People are having predictable reactions to this piece, which I get, but I actually do think we need to have a collective discussion about epistemic ethics, as it were. She didn't know. *Should* she have known? Who is responsible for her not knowing? Did she fail or was she failed, or both?

THE key to media literacy is understanding which sources you can trust. People don't have to judge every fact, but they do have to judge where to put their trust.

When people demonstrate they are liars, you have to remember and apply that to future things they say. They have to lose your trust. 2/2

Me: you can't trust this person, they lie incessantly. :proves particular lie:
Friend: Ugh, fine, you've convinced me. I guess I can't trust anybody, this is so frustrating.
Me: No, actually, you can trust many people, just not this particular one! 1/2
