We have to talk about this also as an insult to the National Guard, who are being used as political props by the President and governors. They signed up to serve their country and their communities, and are now being turned into playthings of a political operation. It’s a slap in the face.

earlier today i asked some smart friends if seeing civilians mowed down on the street by the military would even get attention in a country where mass shootings are the norm. i was reminded that in the wake of kent state, most americans thought what happened there was justified. 🥴
I respect Jeff’s work but we should be careful about what we forecast & how inevitable we make it seem. We are not close to a civil war, but I worry we are perilously close to a mass casualty event because of the undisciplined nature of irregular security forces & an extremely armed civil society
I’m gonna say armed troops from red states descending on a blue city is just a few inches — or maybe one exchange of gunfire — short of a civil war’s opening stages.
