Support for core American principles such as “innocent until proven guilty” and due process is deeper and more widespread than the 2024 election suggests. Only a subset of Trump voters really wanted to overthrow Constitutional democracy. Some were naive, fantasizing, or duped.

Keep pushing on this.
Joe Rogan explains to his audience why due process is important and quotes Ben Franklin — "it is better 100 guilty persons should escape than that one innocent person should suffer.”

He argues against shipping people to a prison in El Salvador without trial because we think they’re gang members.

Not sure if this has been shared here yet, but this is video of Rumeysa Ozturk's arrest posted by WCVB. It's terrifying.

There were howls of protest and denial from the GOP any time we pointed out that Republicans want to cut Social Security.

Now the most powerful official in the White House goes on TV and calls it "the big one to eliminate."
Elon Musk says he wants to “eliminate” programs like Social Security and Medicare: “Entitlements... That’s the big one to eliminate”

Dear Democrats:

📌83-year-old Bernie Sanders has been barnstorming through the Midwest drawing huge crowds taking on the Nazi shit coming out of the Republican Party, and fighting for the rights and benefits WE EARNED.

📌Get a fucking clue, get in the fight, out of D.C., or not another dime.

USDA eliminates two food safety advisory committees
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has eliminated two committees that advise it on food safety, the agency said on Friday, raising concerns about government oversight of the food supply as the Trump administration seeks to downsize the federal bureaucracy and slash costs.

AOC: It's really because Republicans— they’re very thin skinned and they're very sensitive, and their feelings are very easily hurt. And so they have to vote on censure resolutions.

This morning at Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HQ in DC as mandatory return to office began, this video played on loop for ~5 mins on screens throughout the building, per agency source.

Building staff couldn’t figure out how to turn it off so sent people to every floor to unplug TVs.

Ask me any question, on any topic, and I will answer it honestly.

(The only rule here is that you have to retweet this post before you ask your question, so that there will be at least _some_ audience for the answers.)

Fact check: nearly 70 percent of US money for Ukraine actually went to US defense industry to replenish the stocks of OLD stuff that went to Ukraine to use.

Much of which we would have paid to destroy as their lifespan expired.

I have not and will never forgive all those nice sensible people back in 2016 imploring us to calm down because “even if Trump gets elected, it’s not like it’ll really impact OUR lives.”

Pure American dodo-bird thought. And now, here we are.
But I think for most of our lives, if you are a white person (particularly a middle class white person) in the US, politics was something on the margins for you. So always the voice of shitheads telling you "there's no difference deep down". Albeit with some big losses like Roe v. Wade.

Oops.

This is an absolutely remarkable memo — and a betrayal of both the Constitution and the American political tradition. In the US, by *explicit contrast* with interwar fascist governments, the state is not supposed to be an extension of the personality of the chief executive.
