Commie sperglord. He/him/they/them/it/that
went out for drinks after graduating (arts/science double majoring in linguistics & behavioural neuroscience), went home with a woman I'd met that night.. In the morning she told me her accountant dad needed a guy to do data entry. That was 28 years ago. I develop and consult on accounting software.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

The Australian Federal government is effecting a social media ban for under 16s next month to protect my kids from watching science videos or connecting with other non-binary people for support, while the golf game my 10yo plays is now pushing ads for an app that trains you to eat pussy. Hooray!

Blew a tyre on my bike so had to uber to work, arrived and realised I left keys at home and I start two hours before everyone else, so had to call another uber to courier my keys to the office so I can get in. My ride was a Camry. My keys are en route in a Mercedes Benz

Had my mid-year performance review today. In the document my manager said that while my diligence and hard work is appreciated, I should cut back on after-hours work and focus on a healthy work/life balance, then she scheduled the face-to-face meeting an hour after I normally go home.

Should've gone to bed hours ago. Too late now so I've decided to take more ADHD meds, power through, hit the gym at 6am to get a big pump going and rock up to work in a tight turtleneck, ruining the self-esteem of the obnoxious new HR manager, 15 years my junior who keeps talking about his workouts

The abundance/availability of media has hampered my intake of old, obscure media. When there were 4 tv channels and mum's bookshelves to choose from I read and watched so much random, old stuff that proved to be incredibly good. No idea how anyone would come across 'King Rat' as a teenager now.
The Joyce Carol Oates and “books written between 1890-1930 are so ALPHA” thing struck home because it showed how many elites nowadays lack the ability to be moved or find meaning in art beyond what we did watching John Wick and going fuck yea this rules and that explains why they believe in AI art

Colleagues are horrified by my file names, but I've been in the game for a long time and have learned that 'Recipient-Smith|Jason-Power_Query_2024_2025_financial _year_to_date_YTD_revenue_customer_state__bulk_sales_direct_sales_requested_202511130145_published_202511130243.xlsx' won't get lost.
No no no begs every archivist. You are never going to be able to find anything. Please don’t start using emojis in file names. Who asked for this? What fresh hell is next?

It's also fundamentally untrue. I'm fucking amazing at maths and people by and large do put up with any of my bullshit.
I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here

Elon Musk, because I'm sure he'd last a day doing my current job then he'd be unemployed, and I could decommission Grok, cancel the cybertruck, hire some POC engineers and spend some money on some deserving issues/projects.

I wouldn't be an employee any more but I'd still do work, it would be something wildly different from earning a wage though.

I don't sit down on the couch when I get home from work until I've done everything I want to get done that day. Not even for a second, not even to take my shoes off. Clean up, hit the gym, sew something, do laundry, cook, *then* my ass can kiss the couch.

I made what I thought was a fairly clearly sarcastic reply to a post about an Alan Dershowitz essay on lowering the age of consent then went to bed.
Everyone interpreted it as a creepy pro-pedophilia position and I woke up to discover I was the main character. In hindsight it was poorly worded :D
20. What’s the worse experience you’ve had on this app?

State rep in debate & athletics, and I did theatre and choir until my voice broke.
19. What were you involved in in high school?
November 11, 2025 at 9:53 PM
People of earth: you're misusing "the exception proves the rule". Finding a fact that disproves a claim doesn't confirm that claim. Obviously. That's fucking stupid. It means that "no parking between 12pm-6pm" (the exception) proves that you're allowed to park here outside those hours (the rule).
18. If you could speak and be heard by everyone in the world for one minute, what would you say?

Reputation as a linguistics powerhouse.
17. What made you choose the uni you attended?
November 11, 2025 at 9:46 PM
Linguistics, which is what I studied. This is more about the steady job. I went straight from a double arts/science degree with majors in linguistics, history & philosophy of science, behavioural neuroscience and logic to a career in accounts receivable which took me decades to break out of.
16. If you could major in anything and be guaranteed a steady job after college, what would pick?
