My heat pump equipment is 2 years old now. I'm in Ottawa, Canada, and have had no issues for either heating or cooling. My utility bills are lower now than when I was using natural gas equipment (by about $1K/year). The federal gov't provided a rebate and loan, making it even more attractive.
So is that "dogslaughter"?

I've been curious about energy production and Hydro bills in Ontario, since I realized costs are increasing by 29%.

This article gives a bit of history about what's happened & where our energy comes from, though it doesn't say why the sudden increase in price in 2025:

Great response.
TORONTO LIFE: [Trump] hates being called Donald, but he calls you Mark.

CARNEY: He calls me President, actually. The last time he called me, he called me President. I'll just point that out. I just want that on the record.

My thoughts exactly: “But you know, Dalton McGuinty hasn't been premier for over 12 years, and in the last 12 years, thanks to technological progress, the cost of wind and solar has fallen dramatically.”
This hydro rate subsidy is giving the people who have the most the biggest break.

Billionaires like Galen Weston don’t need a break on their electricity bills when Ford says the govt doesn’t have money for affordable housing, healthcare and education.

It's not really measuring a preference, though. If more info was provided, like how much each solution costs a city, the impact on city finances of losing revenue from cameras, and how quickly each solution can be implemented, I bet the responses would be more nuanced.
New Abacus Data polling finds Ontarians prefer traffic calming infrastructure over automated speed cameras.

Half say measures like speed bumps, roundabouts and police enforcement are more effective.

@caulfieldtim.bsky.social Do you know if anyone has done any research on the effect of disinformation on neurodivergent people? I had a psychologist tell me once that one of the challenges ADHD kids have is being easily influenced by bad actors.

Adding 8 more departments to the list of those who only have to seek 2% in cuts. I was worried about the research institutes so this is good news on that front.

Maybe in Ontario we should have been paying more attention to how our energy is produced and not wait for a 29% increase to make us interested. People have been discussing it for a long time, but, of course, no one in power actually listens:

Call to action for Ontarians: If you still have Canadian friends outside our province who think Doug Ford is concerned about defending Canadians, send them to this episode of the OSHOW. No. Holds. Barred.
We discuss that very scenario on the OShow Scandal Panel (it’s always been my suspicion) but @keithleslie.bsky.social @markcripps.bsky.social have other perspectives youtu.be/GTfWSVd7ov0?...

Talked about the prospect of another pipeline and Carney's recent comments on my Monday political panel.

As I said, the biggest impediment isn't regulations or even Indigenous opposition but the lack of a viable business case.

Super Typhoon Fung-wong, the biggest storm to threaten the Philippines this year, started battering the country’s northeastern coast ahead of landfall on Sunday, knocking down power, forcing the evacuation of more than a million people.

Get deep enough, water is ~400C. That makes supercritical steam with the energy density of a fossil fuel.
