My heat pump equipment is 2 years old now. I'm in Ottawa, Canada, and have had no issues for either heating or cooling. My utility bills are lower now than when I was using natural gas equipment (by about $1K/year). The federal gov't provided a rebate and loan, making it even more attractive.

Talked about the prospect of another pipeline and Carney's recent comments on my Monday political panel.

As I said, the biggest impediment isn't regulations or even Indigenous opposition but the lack of a viable business case.

Danielle Smith’s pipeline still doesn’t have a business case
The biggest obstacle standing in the way of another pipeline to the West Coast isn't the tanker ban or federal climate policies. It's oil prices and the nature of the businesses that rely on them for ...

This would be the approximate equivalent of the distance between Ottawa and Halifax.
"Fung-wong [..] with its 1,600-kilometer- (994-mile-) wide rain & wind band, approached from the Pacific while the Philippines was still dealing with the devastation wrought by Typhoon Kalmaegi, which left at least 224 people dead [..] before pummeling Vietnam, where at least five were killed."
Super Typhoon Fung-wong, the biggest storm to threaten the Philippines this year, started battering the country’s northeastern coast ahead of landfall on Sunday, knocking down power, forcing the evacuation of more than a million people.

"Deep Heat" Geothermal Comes of Age. Canada a Leader

Get deep enough, water is ~400C. That makes supercritical steam with the energy density of a fossil fuel.

C'mon, @MarkJCarney, @ABDanielleSmith, let's scale up THIS technology!

@en.ottawa.ca I noticed that the glass on the bus shelter at Tremblay and Avenue R has been shattered....again. Does the city have shatterproof glass or other material? Might be cheaper in the long run.

Unpopular opinion: I love Loblaws. I like the quality and variety of products. I love the cheap canned milk. I love collecting & redeeming points. I love the deals offered to me because I'm a member. And everyone I know who works or worked there say they treat them well.

10 years ago, I was pro-oil/gas. Since then, I've interviewed 100s of scientists, industry insiders, etc.

My conclusion? The AB oil/gas industry lies.

ABGov + politicians, the regulator, trade associations - lying like a sidewalk.

Stop lying, I'll be more supportive.

Two years ago, the world made a bold commitment.

To triple renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency by 2030.

We have good news.

95% of new energy capacity worldwide comes from renewables.

We are moving ever faster towards these goals ↓

Wondering why Ontario Hydro rates just increased by 29%? But don't worry, Ford will use our tax dollars to up the rebate, thus hiding the increase.

It feels like this set the table for foreign interests to interfere with western politics. We displayed just how easily we could be divided when lied to.
Have you watched The Whitehouse Effect on Netflix? It's striking how global warming was an issue that all Americans cared about until the oil and gas lobby got to the government and cast doubt among the public about its legitimacy.
