High in a building is a fabulous rusted iron gate & behind it is (or was) a window with three long, narrow panels that no longer hold glass, or maybe just a bit. Then there's the view beyond of fallen blue timber, a wall, a house, who knows.

Photograph of an immature male Satin Bowerbird perched on the edge of a bird bath, looking at the water with Intentions. The bird is jade, olive, brown, and yellow, with violet eyes and a creamy-coloured beak. Seconds later, the bowerbird has dived into the water and started flapping his wings. It is protecting its eyes with its nictitating membrane (inner eyelid). There are droplets of water flying in all directions. The bowerbird is back on the edge of the bath, facing away from the water, shaking off the excess droplets which are shining in all the colours of the rainbow as they catch the sunlight. From this angle it's clear that the bowerbird has some of his mature black satin feathers on his left shoulder and around his eyes.

Great egret in a little patch of suburban wetland.

Bellambi, NSW. 🪶
A white egret at the edge of shallow water. The bird's neck is straight & beautiful plumes fan down from its back. Its bill is yellowy orange with a grey tip. The narrow leaves of a casuarina hang above it.

Six delicate white flowers that hang like fringed bells in bushland. The blueberry ash (Elaeocarpus reticulatus) is endemic to eastern Australia.

Weirdly, it’s never occurred to me to put up a video of the tawnies here.😄 Yesterday, one youngster was making its little sleeping noise - a quieter version of its night time feeding squawk. Dad is on the right. Mikey Magpie with the bung wing can be heard in the background, along with noisy miners.

Spent a glorious afternoon yesterday freediving (line training) in the pristine waters of Jervis Bay, NSW.

View to Point Perpendicular, the bay's northern entry point.
