La Jolla researchers screened 56 small molecules and found a new class that binds ETF1, a host protein, to disrupt viral ribosomal frameshifting.

These compounds blocked SARS-CoV-2, HIV, and other viruses without harming cells.

Hey everyone, ICYMI I wanted to highlight this groundbreaking #LongCOVID preprint.

Personally, I've found there may be a lot of truth to this idea:

**High anti-spike antibodies that don’t wane 6 months after infection may be a sign of viral persistence**

Restrained memory CD8+ T cell responses favors viral persistence and elevated IgG responses in patients with severe Long COVID
During the COVID-19 pandemic it was widely described that certain individuals infected by SARS-CoV-2 experience persistent disease signs and symptoms, Long COVID, which in some cases is very severe wi...

Huge finding from the. @polybiorf.bsky.social & UCSF
team! #LongCovid patients have abnormally low levels of Natural Killer cells- the immune cells responsible for clearing virally infected cells.

This finding is consistent with the growing evidence for viral persistence as a cause of LC. 1/

Study in the US with 172 participants.

Slower viral clearance during COVID-19 increased long COVID risk, especially in women.

Risk rose with more symptoms, like abdominal pain, nausea, and body aches.

Early viral dynamics may explain long COVID.

it's fairly easy to acknowledge that polio is a terrible disease now because it hasn't been a real threat for decades. Polio only appears in period films. Meanwhile long covid is similarly destroying futures but the stories are not represented in popular culture and thinking about it scares people.

I would add that rejecting "viewpoint diversity" is the entire point of the academy. We evaluate the value of ideas, and drop charlatans claiming global warming isn't real, discrimination doesn't exist, or vaccines cause autism.

They've lost in the "marketplace of ideas" so are rigging the game.
The very same people who lambasted DEI efforts as a subversion of the meritocracy are happily taking money and jobs in the name of “viewpoint diversity”
This is a deeply researched article showing the web of conservative foundations and think tanks supporting efforts like UNC’s “civic life” school. Basically, if you study U.S. history through a conservative lens, there’s money out there for you.
