I've seen so many people online using the government shutdown as an opportunity to demonize people who receive SNAP benefits, WIC and any kind of government assistance.

Here's the thing:

I agree with those people.

We need to end the WHITE welfare state

BECAUSE welfare works.

"The reason it wasn’t on your bingo card is because you never had to think about it. The guardrails of democracy always seemed solid because those guardrails were constructed for you. You never had to worry ....if the law would treat you like a threat before it treated you like a person."
"Black people are tired. Not metaphorically tired—actually tired. The kind of tired that turns every group chat into a mix of gallows humor and emotional triage."

I write about white ignorance and how exhausting it is to hear white ppl insist "this isn't who we are, when it's ALWAYS who we've been.
White People’s Performative Ignorance Is Exhausting—Opinion
Disbelief over authoritarianism in America isn’t a cutesy personality trait. It’s a confession: You haven’t been paying attention.

"Your long-standing opposition to the civil rights movement, or really anything else that could wean this country off of its addiction to racial oppression, has made you uniquely positioned to speak truth to these particular powers."

I'd just fetal position in a corner and die...
Most of my friends think I'm wasting my time and, I probably am. But I had to try.
Here is an open letter, and an honest plea, to Clarence Thomas, in hopes that he might do the right thing this decision season.
He hates me as much as I hate him. But I had to try.
An Open Letter to Clarence Thomas
As the Trump administration tries to remake society along apartheid lines, your vote to stop the assault, however unlikely, is absolutely essential.

Kenya: forever the sell-out in the continent. The soil carbon sequestration scam by the Northern Rangelands Trust that is literally killing mobile Indigenous Peoples is not enough, neither is REDD+ that is forcefully evicting forest dwellers, so it signed on to this carbon capture nonsense🚮

Why some in the Global South are not mourning the demise of USAID
The aid industry has always propped up imperial domination. Its implosion may be an opportunity to shape a new order.

"While the world’s attention is focusing on Trump’s anti-migration spectacle, the European Union is quietly carrying out its own crackdown. Its policies are far less visible, yet they are just as ruthless."

It’s not just Trump, the EU is also waging an anti-migration crusade
The European Union’s border control policies may not be as visible as Trump’s but they are just as brutal.

See STEM for the whereabouts of hole where culture's heart should be.
Where are the country songs lamenting Long Covid? Where are the angry punk/hip-hop songs protesting our society's lack of action? Where are the folk ballads chronicling our healthcare workers' struggles? Why is there a hole where our culture's heart should be?

Very unpopular opinion here in noting that, part of that policy consensus being callously swept aside was the EU dangling NATO membership to Ukraine, categorically knowing that this was a stated red line for Russia. So by all means, let them put their best foot forward to salvage the situation.
(3/3) With decades of Western policy consensus callously swept aside, European nations must now do everything within their power to preserve Ukraine’s sovereignty and repel Russia’s aggression.

Whom, said dictators and despots have been hoisted on those citizens in those countries by the us to begin with.
I knew this would happen, but it's still surreal to hear another nation's leader talk to us in a televised address the way US presidents have historically spoken to the citizens of countries led by dictators and despots.
Trudeau: "I want to speak first directly to the American people. We don't want this. We want to work with you as a friend and ally. We don't want to see you hurt either. But your government has chosen to do this to you. As of this morning, markets are down and inflation is set to rise dramatically."

On Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the reconstruction of a whiter supremacy.
Teaching unwhitewashed history is not DEI. Stocking a Black-owned brands THAT PEOPLE BUY is not DEI. Recruiting HBCU grads is not DEI. Addressing racial disparities is NOT DEI. Treating LGBTQIA people like PEOPLE is NOT DEI

Trump isn’t dismantling DEI

He is reconstructing a WHITER supremacy
DEI Is the New Black
