Coincidence, then, that the leader of the state with the richest cobalt reserves in the world is in DC to sign a "peace" deal. Also

Congo's attempt to control cobalt market risks becoming supply shock
It's been almost 10 months since the Democratic Republic of Congo, the world's dominant cobalt supplier, halted exports of the battery metal.

Maybe to think with is not that population is a taboo topic in sustainability discourses. Rather, why population has a tendency to boil down to "African" specifically, or "Other" broadly as the problematic. A very narrow and yes, racist argument & is perhaps why Vetter is tired of it. I am too.

Weeell, food availability does not necessarily translate to food access. Multiple pathologies mediate food supply & access. Structural issues count to regulate population growth despite abundance of food &; governments have routinely decimated populations as public policy despite food availability

And that's OK. To each, their own.

Thank you for this. Let me look for it!

Prevalence of Malthusian thought in your lifetimes?..to the issue of taboo, the fundamental concern here is quite literally, which populations matter, which is the "right" population to grow, which lives should the planet support? Data will tell you what you want to hear depending on where you fall
December 1, 2025 at 11:19 PM
Still wont...What is the title and author of paper?
December 1, 2025 at 10:52 PM
Right. Not sure how long you've been around for the Congo population to grow 10 times in yr lifetime, but I'm with Vetter on this one. With a projected population of 215 million by 2050, the Congo Peoples will still be less than half of the US population projected to be 438 million by the same year

MDPI denies me access to the paper...

100% yes! Capitalism is a bottomless pit. Its systems, underpinned as you correctly observe, by corporations, require continuous expansion.. might be an interesting conversation to be had tho, as to whether we can draw a straight line btn increase in food production & increase in population, I think
December 1, 2025 at 10:13 PM
Gotchya. Thanks! Thinking aloud since we are here..Drawing from the Covid shutdown (I know)when human activity & commerce slowed down, the earth literally began to heal herself. I have since wondered whether the question of planetary health is one of overpopulation or that of overconsumption by some
December 1, 2025 at 4:32 PM
Is it that population is taboo or is it that, specifically, the "African population is too big (& growing) and they are killing the planet & the rest of us" narrative that gets questioned? Rightly so, it might be added.
December 1, 2025 at 4:23 PM
Curious as to who is the "we" here?
December 1, 2025 at 3:50 PM
So convinced of the kind- heartedness of empire, they actually ask for citation of action by the United States destroying "a" nation to acquire their resources I...😐
Shockingly stupid is right, also blank staring into nothingness for the 8k likes that it has

Circling back to, not saying its OK, but also not hard to see where the kids might be coming from...
November 29, 2025 at 7:01 PM
Risking neck to say, yes, covid..but also because if you fail them, it becomes a "you" problem.
Their failure, apparently, is a you issue and that has all types of repercussions on your career.
So help you god if you also happen to be "DEI" faculty

The things "science" is publishing these days🙃 Guessing that since it concerns the African continent primarily, there shall be no (calls for) retraction of the grossly skewed publication
November 23, 2025 at 12:55 PM
True. However, while politically complicated, Ukraine went to war fundamentally because of US goading. Given Ukraine's geo positioning on the European map, a fight with Russia is just being suicidal & they knew it. Likely would not have done it without the promise of US backing, specifically

Someone, quick, do a health check on the EU😂
November 19, 2025 at 3:50 AM
That is an excellent research question!

But also, this: "If you believe something does not exist, you do not go looking for it. Worse, if you stumble upon it, you still can't see it."

A word.

I take your point and I hold it. This family genealogy.. You grew up with the civil rights mvmt, itself borne of all that preceded yr family, & still, the US has made no significant change. We must find and connect with the spirit of those that have gone before us, if there are any to be after us..

I have always wondered what it is like for Black scholars that do this work... Reading it is hard enough. What was that like for you? Going through all those logs? And why the choice of a comic as the medium of expressing your dissertation?
