Hi! To introduce myself to new folk, I got Long Covid in 2020 and went through the worst 18 months of my life before entering remission—I don't know why. I mask. I believe in AI's potential, and resent what Big Tech has done to it. I also post pictures from walks with our dog.
Haven’t been posting much, but I would like to confirm that I am still masking and still haven’t been reinfected with covid (funny how that works)

None of us play, but we would like to buy a piano keyboard for our kids: shouldn’t be top-of-the-line, but shouldn’t be junk, either. Any tips appreciated!

Apes smart enough to figure out the various disciplines of complex science explaining how deeply they are screwing up the thin eggshell of biosphere that is their only plausible home, yet too dumb to do anything about it

5,290 papers will be published at NeurIPS this year. If you could still get the proceedings in a book, it would be like 50,000 pages long. That’s 14.5 papers a day to read each and every day until the next NeurIPS

I think it is possible to be very sceptical and resistant to the integration of LLM technologies into every aspect of education and scholarship… while also recognizing that the tools *do* have uses. I think thoughtful proponents could work harder to make those cases to e.g other humanists 1/n

Have now heard the full version of the Linehan Audio, and surprised that people were more bothered about his weird "I'll kill {inaudible threats to unclear person" than the fact that he just straightforwardly says to the cops that kicking trans women in the balls is good and asks if they wouldn't.

In 2001 I married my wife, Sylvia.
In 2005 I started medical transition. (1/13)

Just took 6YO and 9YO down to the beach for pizza and icecream. Speaking hypothetically, how bad would it be if I phoned it in at work for, say, the next ten or so years
