Current conditions certainly feel like the U.S. is on the precipice of a significant economic correction or short-term recession. Labor force participation is falling, unemployment is rising, government is shutdown, more upper income folks are eating at McDonald's, government is unpopular...

Good evening. We estimate that between 4.2 and 7.6 million people turned out for the No Kings Day demonstrations held around the country on Saturday. This makes Oct 18 very likely the biggest single-day U.S. protest event since 1970. www.gelliottmorris.com/p/second-no-...

@markwarner.bsky.social with all that’s happened thus far for federal employees, will you consider pushing your colleagues to pass a salary increase higher than the President’s proposal of 1%? FEHB rates are up double digits, inflation is higher, and we’re being put through so much nonsense.

This will go a lot higher in October once federal employees who took the “fork” are rolled off agencies’ books.
Jobless claims 263k — highest since June 2023.

The monthly jobs reports from BLS (assuming the Admin. doesn’t screw with the methodology or reporting) for September, October, and December will have the largest declines in federal employment. The fork allowed feds to resign 9/30 or 12/31. RIFs ramped up in July. Guessing 300-500k lost jobs.

We’ll see the federal job loss numbers in June/July and November. RIF notices in the federal government require 60 days advance notice unless the OPM Director grants a waiver for 30 days due to ‘unforeseeable’ circumstances. Most RIF notices will go out this month with terminations effected in June.
It's a largely DOGE-free report: Federal government employment fell by only -4k.

Perhaps telling people they're fired without legal authority, and in reality putting them on leave while waiting for a court order to undo your madness doesn't (or is yet) to affect payroll numbers.

So, let me understand this.

Senior leadership messaged an unauthorized journalist on a publicly available app with national defense/classified information about an impending military strike.

And this Administration revoked MY security clearance?
American war planning usually takes place in highly secure facilities. But the Trump administration planned its strikes on the Houthis using a group chat—and accidentally included The Atlantic’s editor in chief, Jeffrey Goldberg. theatln.tc/IuULQFiY
The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans
U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat about upcoming military strikes in Yemen. I didn’t think it could be real. Then the bombs started falling.
