It's media, stupid:
"Repubs have in recent years found political success focusing on the issue of crime. The vast majority of Americans, 81%, see crime as a "major problem" in large cities, accd'g to recent polling from The AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research."

Republicans eager for Trump to expand use of military on U.S. soil
As Trump has stepped up his use of military force, fellow Republicans in Congress have done little but cheer him on.

Most Rs never even heard of Vance Boelter, indicted for killing D-Melissa Hortman & her husband + shot D-Hoffman & wife. Had a list of other Dems to kill.
Those R friends I've told have been appalled. They have a conservative point of view but do not support political violence.
Why don't they know?
I'm talking with Republicans who are rightly upset over the murder of Charlie Kirk but who never heard about the murder of MN Dem Speaker of the House Melissa.
R's who are upset about CA'S passing Prop 50 redistricting - but never heard of Texas' redistricting.
Information bubble?

NEW Petition standing against the deployment of the FCC's news distortion rule.
A law would be the better long-term route. The FCC did not stand against unfair use of that rule in the WTVT case decades ago when FOX argued there was a rule but no law against distorting news. youtu.be/nC3QzjGvCaY?...

Thinking that the 7 Democrats & 1 independent may be geniuses.
Let people see their healthcare cost sky-rocket.
Have a public debate just before ACA subsidies expire. A public debate highlighting R's complete lack of a plan.
MAYBE we can come a real solution, including Rs + Ds.

I think it's one reason Stephen Miller hasn't been more successful sowing fascist spectacle.

The Powell Memo. Hmmn. See The Brainwashing of My Dad documentary. @jensenko.bsky.social
There is a very strong case that everything started breaking in one specific year: 1971.

That was the year of the Powell Memo.

Take a look at this website. Scroll and scroll and scroll. It'll blow your mind.

For Expertise to Matter, Nonpartisan Institutions Need New Communications Strategies
To avoid irrelevance when they are needed most, experts and nonpartisan analysts must rethink not just their channels of communication but also their theory of influence.

Leadership is not entitled but earned.
Correct. That’s why it’s going to take bravery from Dem leaders.

They may not be able to stop it. They may get arrested. But they can and must draw attention to the attacks on our freedoms.
Also, they don’t want to be arrested at best or beaten & then arrested at worst. That was the point of beating up Padilla at Noem’s press conference. Use violence & threats of violence on elected officials to establish a competitive system of control.

Turns out protest alone was never what changed things, it was protest *plus media coverage of protests*, which prompted officials to respond to protests, which increased public awareness of protests, etc.

If the protest happens & corporate media simply ignores it ... it's inert.
Six out of eight of the largest mass-movement protests in US history have happened since 2017. You wouldn't know this from most media reporting, and you sure af wouldn't know this from the way either major party has reacted.

Editors + journalists need to revisit their use of the word "conservative". The #CharlieKirk murder has exposed how normalizing the word is to describe Kirk & a fascist movement. Many Americans self-identify as "conservative" yet have a limited understanding of Kirk's far right anti-American agenda.
