How the #Dutch found that the only thing that really encourages biking for transportation is a dense network of high quality bike-infrastructure.

Good quality routes attract bike-riders, but they have to be close together.

A city is only as vast as its network of connective multi-modal infrastructure (pedestrian, public transit, rail, cycling, etc.) and social infrastructure (local amenities, services, trusting informal circles, etc.).
