Just keep in mind: The day will come when America is no longer held hostage by a sociopath, a convicted felon, an arsonist and a vengeful, narcissistic sadist who revels in the pain and suffering of others and builds his fortune on the ruins of public liberty. May it come soon.

Van Hollen is, curiously, one of very few electeds acting the way the founders envisioned—using the opportunity of one of the branches overreaching to further his own career. It’s a good thing, but passing strange we don’t see more of it.
Q: "How do you respond to Governor Newsom?"

Sen. Van Hollen: "I think Americans are tired of elected officials or politicians who are all finger to the wind...Anybody who can't stand up for the Constitution and the right of due process doesn't deserve to lead."

“This does not just affect North Carolina,” Riggs said. “This is like dropping a match in a really dry forest. And if we let this kind of anti-democratic effort take hold, we will not be able to contain it. So this is a fight for the very soul of democracy. Today’s decision was deeply misinformed.”

Last night I wrote about Abrego Garcia’s case. Today, SCOTUS confirmed it’s true. Even though their stay is just temporary, he remains in cruel & unusual conditions in a foreign prison with no recourse. It could happen to any of us. joycevance.substack.com/p/the-week-a...

One of my favorite profs Bob McChesney--the author of Rich Media, Poor Democracy--used to say that there was more truth-telling in the Business section of the newspapers because people will accept less bullsh*t when they're losing money. >>
QUICK: If we are raising these tariffs, taking that money, and simply paying the money to people who are getting hurt, how does that benefit the economy, particularly if it leads to a economic downturn that costs jobs?

NAVARRO: Because it brings home our domestic manufacturing

Q: That takes years

One man just wiped out $10 trillion in wealth, is destroying centuries-old legal protections, and seems determined to unravel humanity’s greatest public health achievement. In 3 months.

I don’t know how we get out of this. But if we do, one person can never have that kind of power again.

Just a legal historian here reminding everyone that “high crimes and misdemeanors” do not need to be felonies.

They can include political abuses and stupidity, like, hypothetically, destroying the economy and wiping out people’s savings in 3 days.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.
