Hitting me hard. In Vienna my grandmother hid my mother from Russian soldiers known for raping and worse during the occupation, after the Nazis did the same in WWII. My grandfather had been forced to flee to Poland because he refused to join the Nazi party. He walked back a skeleton after the war.
Call in the troops to solve the commercial real estate crisis in our swanky downtown cores

This a big deal: "China’s carbon dioxide emissions have been flat or falling for 18 months"

China's economy has grown by ~5% in the last year, so this comprehensively debunks the idea (again) that emissions are tied to growth. So yes, faster progress needed, but this is how you turn the corner.

So he’s saying all the tariff money we took in is gone and we won’t be able to pay it back. There was always a possibility he could lose this lawsuit and have to refund the tariff money. We didn’t prepare for that possibility? He’s running the govt like he ran his casinos.

China just extended its lending facility to Tesla by $2.38 billion last quarter.

Now he disses them right after getting his $1 trillion pay package approved.

Tesla shareholders are stupider than followers of Jim Jones.

One thing I remember from the early 80s was the generic foods aisle. (Where I shopped.) White boxes marked "macaroni and cheese" and cans marked "chili" and "beer." (Mac and cheese? 25 cents, or about 80 cents today.)
That recession, and the unemployment it brought, was brutal.
Wasn't there a point in the early 80's where unemployment in the US approached 10%? Some of my friends from that time have fond memories of unemployment checks, food stamps, and other not so fun things

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

The old (and I do mean old) guard needs to step away. All they are guarding is their own egos, not fighting for democracy and the rights of people living in the US.
Voters want a Democratic Party that fights back against the forces that have rigged the system and made their lives more difficult.

A party that comforts the afflicted and afflicts the comfortable —not a party that buckles and capitulates.

When will party leadership learn this lesson?

Meanwhile this is happening….
Oh, I love this. A new species of sea anemone was discovered recently that parks itself on top of a hermit crab shell like a hat. It seems to feed partly off the crab's faeces, but it also excretes a hard shell that extends the crab's home. In return, it's carried around the seafloor like a king.

By this time next week, we will be The Rachel Maddow Show on MS NOW!

Everything else about us will be the same, and that includes watching.

However! If you DVR the show, you may want to double check the scheduler to make sure it didn't get confused.

From street marches to court battles to the ballot box - we’ve challenged the power of this exceptionally unpopular president.

The lesson from each success we've had is that we need to ramp the political pressure up, always up, not back down, now more than ever.
