Going to the movies by yourself is one of life’s hidden pleasures. Just you and a large popcorn and some sour patch kids and all of your big goblin energy alone in the dark where nobody can see your shame. Priceless.

Proof, if proof be need be, that the spirit of The Day Today lives on
It has been quite the year, so as a distraction from all that here are my WTF TV news moments from 2024 ✨

It's neither the best nor the worst Christmas Carol. It's not even the best or worst musical adaptation of it. Yet inexplicably it's the one I will have the most to say about if pushed (and if I find myself more capable of expressing my thoughts) boxd.it/80stZn
A ★★★ review of Spirited (2022)
If I ever started producing video essays or writing on Medium, this would be the subject of my 3.5 hour/10,000 word long magnum opus. Not because it's an outstanding work of art, nor because it's so b...

I almost missed this - is it the first year Spotify have added podcaster clips to Wrapped?

Anyway, big thanks to @scottaukerman.bsky.social, @tomscott.com, @carebecc.bsky.social, and the folks you make your shows with for bringing a lot of joy to 2024!

Enjoying Kathy Bates' Matlock "reboot" so far, which is weird to say as someone whose only previous knowledge of Matlock was that it was Grandpa Simpson's favourite show.

Could somebody please come over and load the next disc of my box set?

In terms of character introductions, Columbo's "take the victim's wife home and proceed to make the worst omelette ever committed to celluloid" gambit is incredibly hard to beat.

Not too proud to admit this is how I learned about Chesterton's Fence
Tesco has rediscovered Chesterton’s Fence in the form of a 30cm long card cylinder in the centre of a roll of foil.
Tesco recently removed the cardboard inner tube from their kitchen foil. How's that going down with customers?

I allow myself ONE (1) Christmas song before December 1st. And it's always In Dulce Jubilo.

So glad to have finally seen the far superior remake of Due Date (2010) boxd.it/7URC63
A ★★★★½ review of Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987)
I'm outwardly a Del Griffith but on the inside I'm a Neal Page.

So, I always like to have on the go what I think of as a 'rubiks cube' project - something I can tinker with an rotate in my head that's got nothing to do with work. Recently, I've found one that I've really enjoyed: programming a theoretical 24-hour horror movie marathon.

Watching The Creep Tapes on Shudder and, while I was pretty sure before, I'm now convinced Mark Duplass' character is one of the best horror villains of the 21st century. His perfectly ordinary air of malice is beguiling to watch.

My next #monsteroftheweek mystery is gonna be a Christmas episode and I want to avoid the obvious choice of Krampus.

The phrase "Die Hard but make it spooky" is echoing in my head but I don't have a clue what that would look like yet.

It's been a *long* while since I've been an active poster on any kind of social media. I don't know if that'll change here but I'm glad of a fresh start!

Anyway I finished Baldur's Gate 3 this weekend, what's everyone else been up to?
