Here's Merran Smith's response to my question:

"It's 2025, and many other jurisdictions are doing the same, or even more than we are doing at this point ... I would say BC has a suite of policies that are good, they're good, and in order to be a leader, we need to do more." #bcpoli
Back in 2018, the BC government launched CleanBC, billing it as a "world-lleading climate plan"

Awards were won

Today, I asked the leads of the CleanBC review if BC still has a world-lleading climate plan

The answer, essentially, was no

This is another thing I had to cut from my piece - the minimum wage is best understood as an anti-poverty measure *for single or childless couples at the start of their working lives*. But it's not a lever that helps most people struggling to make ends meet. Only cash transfers do that.
Why the two-child limit has to go, in a chart.

There are some truly unhinged bits in the piece about Glasman, as to be expected when dealing with Glasman, but seriously what the actual? That's...one hell of a conflation of terminology.

A couple people asked about this Vancouver Sun article whingeing about the word ‘settler’. I wrote a reply on my Substack here: substack.com/@rjjago/note...

There was a Vancouver Sun article at the weekend, by Peter McMartin - where he asked how long it will be before he can call himself a ‘Native’ of Canada? He’s upset that terms like ‘Settler’ are used ...

This movie seems to have been quite polarizing, but I thought it was pretty well done. A fine though lesser addition to the same nuclear subgenre as Fail Safe and Crimson Tide. There's some good quibbling about the specifics of the scenario in this article www.npr.org/2025/10/24/n...
Here's what experts say 'A House of Dynamite' gets wrong (and right) about nuclear war
Some praised realistic elements like the depiction of the White House situation room. But others said parts of the plot didn't ring true.
