Strategery!
Serious question: could Tylenol’s owner sue the USG for defamation here and material damages?

Nothing to see here. Just a Us treaty ally potentially getting embroiled in a land war in Asia.

Born just in time to deploy to Southeast Asia

Was at the Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL earlier today and stumbled upon this wonderful memorial to the first US animal to go to space and come back alive. Whoever put the banana there, you’re my hero.

Here’s an idea: let US firms buy the excess yards and use them to build / maintain the US fleet.
Europe is plagued by too many naval yards, French Navy chief says
The Naviris joint venture between Italy’s Fincantieri and France’s Naval Group has failed to spur vendor consolidation, said Adm. Nicolas Vaujour.

Important for all of us but especially journalists.
Kidnapping.

Capturing a person against their will without due process is called kidnapping.

Transporting them to another country without due process is called human trafficking.

A squalid extrajudicial prison for people found guilty of no crime is called a concentration camp.
stop calling things deportation just because they call it deportation.

-You cannot legally deport people without due process.

-You cannot legally deport citizens.

-They are defining down deportation to break the law.

Skimping on crew for a warship is a classic example of a penny wise, pound foolish decision. You’ve just spent years & tons of money putting a highly complex war machine to sea. And now you’re going to knee cap it with a small crew? It’s like sending an E-2D into the air with just a pilot.

This thread is spot on. The only reason we’re struggling with national defense is because we’re trying to do it on the cheap. Invest appropriately and better results will come. It’s not rocket science.
Don't think i agree with this. The industrial capacity of the US has waxed and waned over the CW. It wasn't always MEGA HUGE. In the late 60s - early 70s, it wasn't doing so great. Consistent investments that start in the late 70s to 80s resulted in it reaching peak during the end of this period.

really like this essay from klein. i think he's 100% correct about why biden was a one-term president. the #Resistance to Trump I won--as an outside movement. where biden fell down was the inside strategy--the policies implemented once he was in power.

Right-wing populism thrives on scarcity. The answer is abundance. But a politics of abundance will work only if Democrats confront where their approach has failed.

Wrote up something about Techdirt's recent coverage, and why (whether we like it or not) we need to be a "democracy blog" now, rather than just a "tech" blog (not that we've ever been just a tech blog).

This story is *the* story and it impacts everything else.

This is probably a good time to remind everyone about the great work @saintjavelin.bsky.social is doing to support Ukraine. I know today is supposed to be an economic blackout, but make an exception for this organization.

This is what makes America great. A Chinese-American, born a citizen to immigrant parents thanks to the 14th amendment, inspired to fight for a country that saw him as second class at best. His remains finally found thanks to a dedication to find every missing soldier, no matter how long ago.
Her Brother Disappeared in War 80 Years Ago. She Finally Got to Say Goodbye.
Margery Hop Wong last saw her older brother Sgt. Yuen Hop in 1943. He was a soldier missing in action, until researchers solved the mystery behind his death.

As usual, Robert Kagan writes the single best analysis of the Russo-Ukraine war, Trump, and the future of American power. Can’t recommend this piece enough. A must read.
Trump must decide between "a humiliating strategic defeat on the global stage and immediately redoubling American support for Ukraine. The choice will determine not only the fate of Ukraine but also the success of his presidency," Robert Kagan writes:
Trump Is Facing a Catastrophic Defeat
If Ukraine falls, it will be hard to spin as anything but a debacle for the United States, and for its president.

Truly sickening and disgusting. Law enforcement’s efforts to go after this are commendable but not sufficient. The only real solution here is to make the tech companies liable for the content they host on their services. The second that happens, watch how fast they get religion on moderating.

First JetBlue A220 flight out of DCA? Was wondering when we’d see these given they said the DCA-BOS route was going to be a key one for the baby Airbus. That was years ago and only now are we seeing any signs of a changeover as the E190s near retirement.

So sick of navigating shady third party sellers and random consonant brands on Amazon. Feels like there’s a huge opportunity out there for a fast, affordable online marketplace that only sells reputable products and is inherently trustworthy rather than passing that diligence work on to customers.
