I don't know what's more extraordinary here: Mamdani's affirming "I am a Democratic Socialist" in the Oval Office (signaling that we have arrived!) or Trump saying that he doesn't mind being called a fascist. 🫠
Q: Are you affirming that you think President Trump is a fascist?

MAMDANI: I've spoken about--

TRUMP: That's okay. You can just say yes. I don't mind.

Trump and his supporters are in a poisonous feedback loop where his power is based on encouraging their worst behaviors and thoughts.

Calling for the execution of political enemies is an escalation and it makes unchecked fascist violence a reality.

What the Dictator Wants: The Normalization of Violence and Oppression
Trump is openly calling for the execution of his political enemies. We've stepped into a new chapter of this crisis

When Democrats were saying, of oligarchs, "I welcome their hatred," working class voters were theirs not just in voting behavior but identity. When Democrats began to insist there are no "sides," endorse rising tide lift all boats neo-liberalism, & echo opposition, they lost working class support.

Today is Trans Day of Remembrance. It’s a time for us to remember gender diverse people around the world who have lost their lives to violence. To take the life of an innocent person is a reprehensible act and such acts cannot be allowed to continue.

I understand the reasoning behind zeroing in on ICE & DHS abducting citizens. But when you lead with what's perceived as your most sympathetic cases, you cede the moral high ground & make arguing for others harder. It is wrong for armed, masked gestapo to grab people - doesn't matter their status.

It's well known that road to fascism littered with people saying "you're over reacting." Less widely recognized is that road started with allowing billionaires to purchase themselves what ought to be our government. We have been under reacting for generations.

Props to Democrats for demanding that oaths matter and in so doing exposing what is at stake. May this be an invitation for the #BraveOfUS to all come together to Free America of this regime.

Across places, races & parties, most Americans believe violence has no place in our politics. We settle differences & decide our futures by selecting leaders, not threatening death to our opponents. Trump & his MAGA minions just keep proving they are a regime of the bullies, for the billionaires.

“These are unprecedented economic and political times. All decisions relating to public money NEED to be strategic, maybe now more than ever.

But ‘blunt instrument’ austerity budgets can devastate a city like ours, weakening its reputation and its economic positioning, and undermining its future.”

Been wondering what's going on with logging in BC?

Most BCers don't hear about logging very often, ever since mainstream media eliminated their enviro beats in the 1990s

Here's a rundown:

1. BIG LEAK: BC govt suspiciously overestimates how many trees are left
#bcpoli
Leaked report claims B.C. timber harvest is vastly overestimated
An undisclosed report obtained by BIV estimates the province is likely approving twice as much logging than can be sustainably harvested

Matt Yglesias lies all the time. The Breakthrough Institute lies all the time too (about me, about climate science, about Americans’ views).

I don’t want constantly to hate on the Abundance people, but why are they associating themselves with liars?

Am I the only one who thinks this a problem?

Again, Trump talks about climate change all the time. He lies about clean energy all the time.

BECAUSE HE KNOWS PEOPLE CARE ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE AND LIKE CLEAN ENERGY

Trump always tries to shape people’s ideas about things to justify his own doings.

Trump: "I don't think Saudi Arabia would like me too much if we decided to kill oil and natural gas. There's nothing like it. It works. Windmills don't work. Other things -- I don't want to get it into too much -- but they don't work. What does work is natural gas, oil, nuclear, and other things."

And I get that a lot of people like the abundance frame, and how obvious “cutting red tape” sounds as the path to providing all the things we want. But please understand how that framing is actually being used in real-world policymaking. #Abundance #PermittingReform
Some folks over at “Inclusive Abundance” the think tank promoting the “abundance agenda” have been complaining about Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act for quite some time.. looks like they’re getting their wish. bsky.app/profile/dust...
New ESA rules proposed by the administration revive earlier rollbacks, weaken habitat protections and section 7 consultations, expand economic exclusions for oil and gas, and offer fewer automatic safeguards for threatened species. #energydominance #permittingreform www.nytimes.com/2025/11/19/c...

This is the problem with trying to inspire hope using the message "we have the solutions": such a message may inspire the kind of techno-optimism that actually fosters political *dis*engagement.

A new paper from great colleagues takes a careful look at techno-optimism — the belief that technology will largely solve climate change — and what it means for real-world climate action.

Hope is a very heady drug. But observing courageous determination is even better.
a big runoff last night, in New Orleans:

Calvin Duncan was exonerated after spending *28 years* in prison; he tried to get his own case records from the New Orleans city clerk—but the office dragged its feet.

So Duncan ran to become city clerk himself, and yesterday ousted the incumbent.

Only minorities of Dems and Independents support more fossil-fuel production.

So why is anyone telling @TheDemocrats to promote fossil fuel production to win elections? 🤔

Now it's Abundance poster-boy Josh Shapiro pulling PA out of the cap-and-trade Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.
