Who else is scrambling to order England & Wales wills from Probate Search for their #OnePlaceStudy / #FamilyHistory / #LocalHistory research ahead of the imminent price hike? How have you fared with finding the wills you want – any tips to pass on? A wee #OnePlaceWednesday wills thread here. 👇🏻
Another photo taken during my recent visit to Fawsley for #OnePlaceWednesday! With the cost of wills from Probate Search due to skyrocket next week (from £1.50 to £16 each) I've been ordering more wills relating to my Waters Upton #OnePlaceStudy people. 35 so far with more to be ordered.
It’s #OnePlaceWednesday! Wherever you are and wherever you are researching, for your #FamilyHistory, #LocalHistory or #OnePlaceStudy projects, we hope you’re having a great week. Use the hashtag to tell us about the places and communities you are studying, and to share your OPS news, pics, and chat.

Ein guter Anlass, um auf die Geschichte von Rosalin Franklin und auf den Matilda Effekt aufmerksam zu machen.

DNA has been used to identify a Jane Doe believed murdered in the early 1900s. The body of Alice Spence (nee Burke) was found in a well in Saskatoon in 2006. She left behind a young daughter, but apparently descendants had no idea of the drama in their family history. #Genealogy
Her name was Alice Spence: DNA identifies century-old Saskatoon body of 'woman in the well'
After a decades-long investigation into mysterious historical remains, 'the woman in the well' finally has her name again.

If you’re interested in old #Maps and how parish boundaries have changed over time you’ll want to bookmark this article. My own #FamilyHistory research has been complicated by a couple of these cases. Also of interest to those studying #LocalHistory.
This is - trust me - the sort of thing that I have to worry about as @vch-home.bsky.social editor. I have bookmarked this (absolutely brilliant, thank you to all concerned), Wikipedia page.

Please don’t ask *how* these exclaves existed, or *why*, I’ll get a headach.
This is a delightful diversion - it turns out that one of my regular walks used to be an enclave. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Countie...

Poppy has since passed away. She was 15. I like to think she's on her blue blanket in the afterlife.
This is Poppy. She is our eldest. She enjoys food, naps, and anything warm. She is very attached to her blue blanket and looks sad whenever it goes in for a wash. #Cats #CatsofBluesky #CatSky

This is my plea: stop using colourised photos in the news and in books. Don’t encourage ‘fun’ distortions of historical images that could produce confusion, for the sake of clicks/likes. Accept historical images with all their flaws and gaps: they don’t need ‘correction’, they need interpretation.

I’ve written lots about the problems with historical photo colourisation (which also uses forms of AI). This is an extension of this practice (an extreme one) reliant on the same logic of emotional ‘impact’ outweighing veracity, and ignoring or refusing to accept the historical limits of imagery.
