Several people have commented about Ancestry's updated #DNA ethnicity estimates over the past 24 hours. I've written a short blog post about how mine have changed. To sum up: more Dutch, no longer Scottish. I also stand in solidarity with the people of #Yorkshire!

In this house, New Year’s Eve means watching ‘Mamma Mia!’

Also, eating an indecent number of Lebküchen and drinking wine.

I may or may not make midnight, and I don’t really care either way.

I’m not one for New Year’s resolutions, but I do intend to dust off my #OnePlaceStudy in 2026 and share some stories from The Lew in #TunbridgeWells. No excuses - it’s right on my doorstep! I passed through only this morning.

It’s rather late in the day to post, but here’s the shrine of St Thomas of Canterbury on the day of his commemoration.

That wonderful moment when your husband's new #DNA match and double 3rd cousin emails you a hand-drawn family tree. Bizarrely enough, I already have a photocopy of the left-hand half which was in my late mother-in-law's papers! #FamilyHistory #Genealogy #Cheshire

Hoping I can attend this one in 2026!

Normal routines have returned.

Men: shouting at the rugby on TV 🤦🏼‍♀️

Me: escaping to the study to do some #FamilyHistory research. 😂

Back home in Kent now having visited family in both Worcestershire and Cambridgeshire. Now busy with laundry, finding homes for presents, and trying to find the energy for a party this evening!

Now at my parents’ for a couple of days. Can anyone shed any light on the background to this Christmas card / decoration? We think the illustration might be of Italian origin (or style). The inscription is to my Mum from my Great-Grandmother (1875-1971). 1/2

Does anyone know why lots of Germans seem to have moved to Brazil circa 1880? TIA.

It was lovely to escape the noise of extended family for an hour and be just our own family unit for an hour.

And finally, before I sort of step away for a few days, here’s my most unusual Christmas card. The sender is the artist - a family friend.

It’s hard to choose a favourite Christmas carol, but ‘O, Holy Night’ is right up there. It’s not one I greet up with, and have only sung it a couple of times - it’s more of a choral one than for congregational singing.

Sending Christmas greetings to all my friends. What an amazing #Genealogy community we’ve built here on #BlueSky! Special hugs to those for whom Christmas may be bittersweet because of loved ones no longer at the table.

Parcel delivery this afternoon. I’d bought some gaiters for Mr H for Christmas, given that muddy dog walks are pretty much a daily occurrence this time of year.

The teenager looks at me blankly: “gators, are they like crocs?”

Oh, how I laughed! 🤣🤣🤣

I couldn’t wait and bought the hardback version. I read it in three days, and what a rollercoaster of a plot it was! Absolutely top class sleuthing from Morton. 🥰
Thanks to everyone who has purchased The Hop-Picker Murders. It's currently riding in the top ten of the Historical Mysteries, Private Investigator and Historical Thriller charts. Thank you! Hope you are enjoying Morton's latest adventure! ☺️

Christmas traditions slowly change and adapt over time. For many years we had a full-size tree in the front bay window. Then we had the kitchen extension and opted for a tree there instead, with furniture moving into the sitting room to make space. With home-working becoming entrenched, we now/next

Sorry; I completely forgot about #GenHour. Exciting news with Mr H’s #DNA results arriving. Two (known) 1Cs on his match list, and some unknown 2Cs. Also interesting developments around the tree of his 1C1R too. It’s all rather complicated, but sometimes it takes a mistake to find the right answer.
