Standard issue optimistic skeptic. That's me with Kermit Ruffins in the tiny circle, a signal I may post about roots music even though people associate me with beer (appellationbeer.com), and specifically with hops (hopqueries.com/subscribe).

Back when the craft beer boom started, we purists would cringe when BudMillerCoors types would refer to it as "liquid."

I guess they won.

A THC drink before a colonoscopy could change the way we think about colonoscopies.
I can’t bring myself to try another THC beverage. I haven’t tasted one for several years, it the taste was so foul that I don’t want to repeat. It tasted like the stuff we drink for colonoscopies.

And if you’ve tasted that, you know why I don’t want another THC drink.
But maybe they’ve improved.
Bon Appetite has a big THC package out this week and I’m thrilled to contribute two drinks pieces!

First up: What are weed drinks doing to change the perception of THC socially?

The Future of Weed Is Liquid
Weed's true breakthrough won't come from smoking, vaping, or even eating, but from beverages analogous to booze.

The anarchic creativity of peak craft beer is still alive and well in Poland. In today's blog post I sample some of it via the Warsaw Beer Festival: thebeernut.blogspot.com/2025/10/wars...

Early results suggest that bottle conditioning could improve the chemical stability of dry-hopped beers.

I understand the appeal and importance of a volume account for large craft breweries. I really do. But Costco is not where you want to try to sell your fresh hop hazy IPA. It's late in the day on October 20th and I'm seeing cases upon cases of a Seattle brand sitting warm on shelves.

Cool stuff.
I found a historic analysis of Bamberg beers from January 1843 (very early to find data about alcohol content and residual extract), and used it to reconstruct the original gravities of historic Bamberg Schenkbiere. The results were very surprising!
