So, I'm putting together my weekly film score quiz that posts Saturday at 10am ET, and I dreamt up a little parlor game.

Here's a list of five famous actors:
★ Robert De Niro
★ Janet Leigh
★ Orson Welles
★ Gregory Peck
★ Patricia Neal

Name one person who connects them all.
Go!

The scope of Schubert's achievement during his final year is mind-boggling. It included his last three Piano Sonatas, his 2nd Piano Trio, his String Quintet, the song cycles Winterreise and Schwangesang and his Mass in E-flat, all massive, highly-original works. Incredible.

More extravagant praise for "The Monkey King" at @sfopera.bsky.social, and praise from me for the vividness and brilliance of @gmeline.bsky.social's writing here.

The reading of "Land of Bliss" as an 11 o'clock number in the Broadway tradition is pure gold.
