I spent time with incarcerated firefighters on the frontlines in Pasadena. They're working 24-hour shifts, hiking for hrs thru darkness + steep rugged terrain, dodging debris + embers, clearing brush by hand. They make $5-10 a day and $1/hr bonuses on fires
