The thing you need to understand about the Right is that they are absolutely fine just plain burning down higher education if taking it over ideologically doesn’t work. They’re perfectly happy reducing it to ashes.

Nothing religious Christians hate more than the actual teachings of Christ.
His first major text describes protecting the climate, welcoming migrants and pursuing economic justice as sacred obligations. To admirers Pope Leo XIV is a compassionate reformer; to critics, the “commie” or “woke pope” econ.st/47Lk2pM

The person being quoted is shitty but he is not wrong; I did not work in tv for 45 years, but I’ve worked news/mag advertising and/or digital marketing for 25 or so - and if you want to grab a media company’s attention by the short hairs, yes: bitch to their advertisers, not their inboxes.

I met recently with a student who only a few years ago applied to college by submitting materials on paper in an envelope through the mail. Today my university's admission process—and 500 other colleges—runs on the Slate CRM system ("customer relationship management"). 5/

People working in universities know a lot of the work that makes the organization function is outsourced to for-profit companies (catering, landscaping) or runs on platforms requiring payments to such companies: Workday, Canvas, Microsoft, Zoom.

This thread will be for less obvious examples. 1/

This is a canary in the coal mine. Humanities programs are highly endangered, even the departments with reputations for discipline-defining job placement are treading water. What’s tragic about the University of Chicago case is that cuts are almost certainly elective and ideological.
This isn’t an impoverished regional school – this is the University of Chicago. Devastating.

5+ years ago, my wife was eating a peach and tossed the pit into an old flower pot. She did not care about plants or gardens at all, but declared she would grow a peach tree. OK.

That pit actually grew without her doing a thing, for years, and now has buds on it and ALL I HEAR ABOUT IS HER SKILL.

They are all bad but losing Carla Hayden really hurts because she is inspiring to me. She was a public librarian who worked with teens. She told me how valuable the work of a teen librarian is. I hate he fired her. She is a legend in our field.
