Here's Ellen Harding Baker's "Solar System" quilt.🧪

This is the story.🔭

Back in 1876, an Iowa mom with 7 kids, E. H. Baker, decided that cooking & raising children wasn’t enough for her.

She started working on a wool quilt showing the solar system.

Imagine a pitch-black sky with one lone, soft glow floating dead center. It’s a big, slightly oval puff, creamy at the heart, fading gently into a huge, ghostly pale haze that’s almost lost in the dark. A very faint, thin shadow drifts across the upper part like a whisper of smoke. No arms or patterns, just smooth and fluffy. A handful of tiny star specks with little cross glints keep it company around it.
