The difference between how the media has responded to lies about trans healthcare and lies about autism and acetaminophen is glaring.

Especially given that transition is more effective at what it does and how it improves quality of life with fewer risks than even acetaminophen does.

many ppl highlighting flaws in this article. but having fought in the "80% desistance" wars of the mid-2010s, I remember asking anti-trans activists if they'd be ok if 80% of youth were helped by gender-affirming care (flipping their argument). & they *never* answered. b/c they want *zero* trans ppl

but “hey, let’s hear a perspective the media won’t give you: let’s hear why vocal support of trans people increases electability & why we can’t sacrifice anyone to fascism” wasn’t pod save’s final plan. their plan was/is a pit fight for dignity?

so, once again i ask: what are those guys even for?
folks are passing around an “even if the pod save guys are right & trans issues cost the election, we can’t give up on what’s right even if it’s not popular” post & i’d love if you paused, looked at what that cedes & asked “what does this framing get trans people?”

this is a thread of threads.🧵

Buttigieg said parents have legitimate concerns.

To be clear: If you cannot be relied on to unequivocally defend transgender kids, you can’t be relied on to defend anyone or anything.

The History of White People by Nell Irvin Painter is an absolutely fascinating read on this
Especially because the white critics —who think checking these boxes is as easy for everyone else as it is for them — would learn that the “white” category itself has had an incredibly complex and contested history.

3. One really important caveat: passport offices will require that you sign an attestation form. One trans person took a picture of their form and sent it to EITM, which you can see here.

I have independently confirmed that this data WILL be saved, so privacy minded people may factor this in.

Awesome let’s use AI to justify censorship
Law360 is requiring all stories pass through an AI "bias indicator" before publication.

The new policy came weeks after an executive from its parent company, LexisNexis, accused the newsroom of liberal bias in its Trump admin coverage. My latest for @niemanlab.org
