saw someone say something like "everyone who worked on that movie talks about it like they killed a man, hid the body, then agreed never to speak of it again" which is bang on
Watching Rogue One. Such a terrific rescue job, such a shame we will never get the “Tony Gilroy commentary in which he talks us through his rescue job” DVD extra it deserves.

yeah people clown on JS a lot because they're forced to use it for the web but Lua is easily worse

1-indexed arrays sound like they'd only be a mild annoyance but it's actually a huge pain, since you have to keep track of what integers are array indexes and what integers are array index offsets
people are always like oh isn't javascript funny, it thinks a string is a number, meanwhile lua appears to have been designed by six of the world's most powerful and nefarious evil wizards to specifically torment humankind (me)

like the UK recently put into effect a whole-ass law supposedly intended to protect children online, and, as far as I can tell, it is not designed to target roblox in any way, even though that is where kids spend a ton of time online and are demonstrably unsafe in myriad ways. just fuckin crazy.
something that makes me feel insane is how bad roblox is, how every kid plays it, and how nobody ever talks about it. highly recommend everyone watch the People Make Games investigations on them.
me: oh god it can't get worse can it
roblox ceo: we are innovating ways to get kids addicted to gambling

2026 will be the year of Godot and the year of the linux desktop, get ready for it nerds
Godot having robust svg support so I can work on vector sprite sheets without intermediary pngs is one of those lovely ‘this will save me 10 minutes a day’ solves.

And damn will it be helpful when I decide to change the lineweight on all icons an hour before an update goes live

review is very good as a whole but this one sentence beautifully tells you everything:

"There’s a “damn Daniel” joke immediately followed by a “Pepperidge Farm remembers” callback within the first 20 minutes."
I spent so much time in Marvel’s Deadpool VR having nonstop “Deadpool jokes” pumped directly into my ear that I started to see the very predictable anatomy of a “Deadpool joke.” So here is a cursed review of Marvel’s Deadpool VR. www.polygon.com/marvels-dead...

It's a great cosmic joke that neurodivergence both runs in families and gets diagnosed based on parent reports. I was diagnosed at 30 because a man who has eaten potatoes every day for 57 years and a woman who collects loose buttons decided I was a perfectly normal child.

imo, you're overthinking it. i've watched playtesters who were focused on the gameplay not hear a voice line, not read a subtitle, and ignore three lit in-world signs in the dark then get lost

ive had someone i was on mic with not hear my words when i told them what to do 5x

attention is weird
You wanna know why we're having nag line discourse in 2025? Because developers know we're fighting an attention economy war we'll lose no matter what. Players don't read, have TikTok open next to them, god forbid we are scared you miss something and then blame us for not giving you all the info.

it's so easy to scam at scale, or flood the zone with shit, or stoke tribalism, and while we can educate, i don't know if there's a way to Stop entire societies from Being Stupid. so please, don't *you* be stupid. recognize the exploits, call them out, and show others. i think that's all we got.

i spend a lot of time thinking about how we live in an age where so many human psychology exploits are known and preyed upon a trillion times from a trillion angles every day, and i'm not sure what we can do about that. human brains are wired up for certain stuff, and evil easily takes advantage.

hm, not really, this isn't a mass market play.

if anything it feels like what's about to happen is the PC gaming wars; with its new Xbox strategy MS wants to tighten its grip on Windows gaming, while Valve wants to slip out of that grip with Linux while relying on Windows APIs via Proton.
Imagine going back 15 years To the height of Xbox 360 and saying Microsoft has functionally left the console wars only to be replaced by Valve
The Verge exists so @seanhollister.bsky.social can go deep on the new Steam Machine, the culmination of over a decade of Valve investing in making Linux run Windows games better than Windows www.theverge.com/games/818622...
